So my old man bought a 3rd gen long bed a couple months back, probably has about 3k on it at the moment. Today he went out to the truck to drive it and couldn’t get the truck to budge. The truck starts fine, shifts fine, shifts from Park to Reverse to Neutral perfect but nothing happens. Seems like the e brake is still engaged but it’s not. What gives? Called a tow truck taking it to Toyota now but just wanted to post this to see what could be the issue.

I told him it wouldn’t have happened with a 6 spd. Lol
    My 3rd gen is a 6spd

Parking brakes can seize. You put a boat in the water recently?

I’ve seen normal brakes seize as well and just needed some gas to pop loose. Good call on the water.

I bet your rear brake is stuck from sitting for 3 weeks.
Did he leave the e-brake on while on vac?

Ive had the e-brake freeze on both off my last two Tacomas. Once at work on my 08, once on the top of mountain pass in Colorado on my 12. Both times the truck wouldn't budge. I "released" it by hitting the rear drums with a brass hammer I keep in my tool bag. I don't launch boats or live in the rust belt. I think the linkage can just freeze up if used infrequently. This is all if the e-brake was even used to park the truck while it sat.

I left mine sitting for 2 weeks. The parking brake had seized when I returned. Had to give it a good amount of gas to break free.

Thank you all for the quick replies, but the truck is at Toyota now. They said they will have a diagnosis by Monday.
Prior to that when the mechanic started the truck and was going through the gears putting it in drive, reverse etc. when in drive the truck almost wants to start moving but it couldn’t. Hearing your replies about the e brake freezing up makes me think it’s more than likely the culprit. The truck was parked on an incline with the e brake engaged for 3 weeks, but we’ll hear from Toyota on Monday. Again thank you guys

Put it in low 4-wheel drive and pop loose those rear brakes. You may need to put it in reverse if the front tires (4-wheel drive) are dragging the stuck rear tires.
