    That's the impression I got, except with a properly executed supercharger. From what I understand, most people just bolt it on and maybe add a URD 7th injector and end up unimpressed with very little noticeable gain. From what I've understood from @Southern01Taco 's experience you have to move a vacuum like to the upstream side of the throttlebody to get the computer to get the fuel mixture right and then it comes alive.

    Still, in my situation, just regearing would make it seem like I gained 50+ hp, lol.

    At any rate, this engine is really just a toy for me to experiment with. I'm hoping when it comes time to do something about the OGT's engine (or Natty's) I can find a serviceable bare block for less than what the machine shop said it would cost to resleeve that cylinder. Meanwhile, I should have a good set of heads, an intake, and a bottom end to put in any of the 5VZs I have. The machinist did tell me it would be cheaper to rebuild my currently running engine than it would be to bring this one back to life.

    $4500 unless you add the 7th injector, pulley, mething etc. For about 100hp. Not much else besides that lol least they're tough motors!

    Guess I'm safe then. For me it's difficult to the point of impossible to come up with $2k for a reagear, much less $4500, lol. Honestly though, I'm not looking for power gains other than what I'd get from having a fresh engine with closer tolerances. Just want one that doesn't have a valve train rattle and has a tighter bottom end. After all, we all want a tighter bottom end. :rofl:

    Oh, unless, of course you dropped it in a brand new drop-in plug in the wiring harness and go crate motor good for another 300-500k miles. That might be worth the cost, if you had the cash to spend.

    I just lucked out when I got my supercharger there was no way in hell I would spend that much for some extra hp.

    I wouldn’t spend 4500 on a toyota engine unless it was a 2jz built. I would take that and do a LS swap.

    Doubt an LS would fit in a 1st Gen without some major mods. I already have some experience with that and I wouldn't do it again. Maybe a 4.0L Ford Cologne V6 or a 4.7L Chevy Vortec V6, but not a V8. 2nd Gens probably have a little more room though.

    About as well as the 350 did in my '87. Of course, if you wanted A/C, you either had to cut the core support and run a short, hard to find water pump, or run your radiator in the bed, which is what I planned on doing. Basically it was a huge PITA and I wish I would have gone with a 4.7L. It would have been much easier and it still would have been plenty of power.

    Of course, if I had it to do over again, I would have taken the body and the 22RE off the '87 and put it on my '83 frame and had a solid axle '87 with a 22RE hooked up to a 5-speed manual and maybe at some point down the road I would have considered going to a V6. That would have been the smart thing to do.

    I sold the 96 2jZ I had in storage for $18k last November. Included the greddy intercooler and 80mm turbos, and all the plumbing.

    I didn’t realize how much it was worth. I was talking to a guy who was looking to sell his 94 Supra body and transmission because I was considering buying it and he ended up offering me cash for the motor instead. He got a built motor that was ported, polished, bored .20 over and when running had 1130 hp and 28 pounds of boost.
