Okay, stupid question. I have had 4X4 issues for a long time now especially the axle boots. (That's actually the only 4X issues I have ever had to date)

Anywho... by going manual hubs, we would no longer be able to engage 4X4 within the inside of the cab right?

I wish I knew about this much much sooner. People don't tag me in the important stuff!

If you lock your hubs before you get in, then you can engage from within the cab as usual.

    For instance
When I'm about to go on my usual weekend off-road trip, I lock my hubs before I leave the house- I'm now as stock. When I get there, engage from within the cab. During the week, when I'm 100% asphalt, I leave them unlocked (no boot wear).

Depending on where you live, you may want to keep them engaged during the winter, just in case, and disengaged during the summer.

Ahh I gotcha. So this would essentially turn the electronic flip switch 4X4 system into a two part system. 4X4 will not work unless you first lock in your hubs. There is no additional risk in screwing up the 4x4 system if you are locked in all the time as that would basically make you the equal to how you are rolling in the truck from the factory.

    Do I have that correct?

You my friend, are a genius! This cost on here, is that all that is needed to set a truck up or are there other external costs required to make this all work?

And there is the option to completely go manual by delete the front diff actuator and swapping your transfer case with a sticked one from an FJ Cruiser.

It doesn’t include the selectable hubs themselves, I didn’t want to force Aisin or Warn on anyone. It accepts 1st Gen Tacoma hubs, some people still have some laying around and you can occasionally find a deal on eBay. Hub part numbers are listed in OP.

Yes. Front v8 4runner and fj cruiser awd units had no actuator for the front pumpkins. Many people have gone to the fj manual case

Got my fj twin stick t case on order. I like the sounds of the manual Hubs. Are the hubs from a pickup the same as a 1st gen? I have alot of them laying around. And I think I saw a write up on going to a cable engaged front diff.

Are pickup and 1st Gen Tacoma hubs interchangeable?

Not sure was hoping you or someone knew. Not much of 4th he front suspension is interchangeable. But who knows maybe the hubs are.

Rockauto has them fairly cheap and brand new
