So I have a 08 Tacoma v6 4x4 6 speed manual. I don’t do much off-roading but I went the other day and hit a big rock in a mud pit. Everything was fine until the next day and the check engine light came on, I took a quick look for leaks or anything obvious and found nothing and it ran and sounded fine. Then the next day the check engine light went off and it stayed off for almost a week. Came back on today and at first everything felt normal but then it started to feel like it’s dogging and struggling when I’m on the gas, almost like the clutch is slipping but it doesn’t rev up. Still drive-able but it does it almost every time I shift. Not really sure what it could be so any help would be appreciated

Haven’t gotten it checked yet probably doing that today, I was just hoping someone could point me in the right direction in the meantime

The code is key. Everything else is guessing.

Your driveabiltiy issue may or may not be related to your incident.

There are 1000 reasons why the check engine light will come on. Codes are needed...

Get the code(s) pulled as a first step ...

But, I'll take a guess LOL!
What you're describing sounds like a clogged catalytic converter

Well found out it’s the knock sensor, code P0333. I don’t think that’s something I can do myself

    What actually hit the rock?
Knock sensor codes can be damaged wire/plug, faulty sensor, or caused by another failed component.

Knock Sensor. Isn't that the one that the mice love to eat the wires on between the heads in the valley?

For those who haven't dissamblied anything yet, try cleaning the mass airflow sensor. My situation was during normal driving the check engine light suddenly illuminated, I plugged into my Actron code reader and the confirmed code read was P0333 - as discussed earlier. I reset the code, but the next morning while driving the check engine light came back on. That evening I plugged it back in and it was the same code P0333. I did the knock sensor research online and started to get worried. Since I have 130K with never cleaning the MAS and I had a new CRC MAS cleaner, I gave it shot. Reset the code and it has been four days of driving with no code.......Yet.
