Replacement aluminum oil filter cap assembly for 3.5 V6

Does anyone know if the Toyota aluminum oil filter cap #

15620-31060 can be used to replace the plastic unit on my 2018 Toyota Tacoma 3.5 V6?

I find conflicting information online. Thank you for the help.

 

Why change? The oil filter housing is up high and covered by the skid plate.

 

I trust cast aluminum a lot more than plastic when it come to hot oil under pressure.

 

Do you know where the small leaks were from? The drain plug or the filter housing O ring sealing?

It does, indeed. I found one off Amazon for about $16 shipped.

 

There have been zero problems due to heat or pressure on the OEM housing after close to a half million 3rd gens sold in three years. Don't worry.

 

Oh there have been problems, just not with that particular piece lol. When we are designing our hydraulic systems we would much rather use plastic wherever possible. Much less headache and much more impact resistant.

 

Had a composite housing on my 2010 FJ and have had no issues. Composite material works just fine in heat and under pressure.

 

I swapped mine. No issues since.

 

If it's the same material as the OEM scion frs filters you'll be fine. Doubt the tacoma will ever get as hot as tracking a car in 100+*f heat.

 

The plastic on the canister caps distorts, especially when tightened by lube bay kids. It's not a spin on filter.
