Oh shit! I’ve been wondering how those Colorado’s perform off road. How did it do?

Oh and today was the hardest time I've ever had on Dutch I couldn't get onto the walls like I normally am able to I think some of the flattened areas on the walls were washed down some. But I made it up. Brad said that was the easiest time he's ever had and it was like cheating having the lockers going up. Brad drug his diff in a couple of places in typical small tire Brad fashion. Also in spotting for him GM had the bright idea to put the shock mounts lower than the Tacomas and in the middle of the axle tubes so had to really keep an eye on them don't want those fancy shocks messed up. Surprisingly though the front skid of the ZR2 isn't a whole lot lower than my Tacoma.

I had a gas Colorado follow me around when it was dry a couple months ago. He said he knew when he would drag by watching me. Except for him bending his bull bar, it actually performed pretty good up RML.We both had about 3000miles on our trucks. He was looking hard at the diesel and believe before he bought the gas..

With the passenger and sliders on for the first time last week, I noticed a lot more noise in the cab hitting things I hadn’t before.
Looks like a new skid and have to save up for that suspension now..

Guys, are there any trails a stock off road could typically go that are not currently a good idea after recent heavy rains and new ruts, etc in trail? I’m probably being overly cautious, but I walked a bit of falls dam with my 2 year old the other day just to eyeball things and get him outside. We didn’t drive on anything except the service roads because he is not a fan of off-roading, yet, and he is not much of a spotter.

The day after some good rain I did everything except the D’s and RML and didn’t have any problems. I am in a pretty much stock OR..it is slippery out there when wet!

Thank you for the response. I’m still bone stock, even tires. I am hoping to get out there again soon. I need to catch up with some of you guys and actually find out what she can do.

Stock trucks do fine on the easy trails. As far as upgrades I'd recommend this order
    1. Better tires (AT or MT)
    2. Sliders
    3. Bigger tires
    4. Armor(skids/bumpers)
    5. Lift

I've guided as well as others have up Rocky mountain loop, the back of Daniel and Dutch John. The stock TRDOR is a very capable rig. Even the big ruts aren't really a challenge if you go with experienced spotters. If you want to do easy stuff and go by yourself and are a little uncomfortable just stick to everything except dutch, dickey, and Daniel and the beginning of Rocky mountain loop. Get your son on the trail after a rain turn wipers on high and blast through a mud puddle he'll be hooked. My daughter instigates my truck getting muddier when she comes than without her. Splashing through those puddles is the biggest kick.

    @TarHeelG
Or if your like me and aren't afraid you can do everything out there without any armor just lift and bigger/better tires. But this order if upgrades is recc. The third gen you can put 255/85s under them without a lift and that would kill the bigger and better tires with one stone.

I've banged more shit since sliders and skid because I'm less pickey about my lines doing stuff stock can really help with learning to pick lines. I think it helped me I just became a little more aggressive since the armor.

Thank you very much for the response and advice. When the stock tires are done, I’m planning to go 255/85’s. With the little guy and another baby on the way, I have to be patient on upgrades. Seriously, I appreciate the feedback. I’m not very cavalier out there: very tentative about banging up my daily driver.

You’ll be fine with only bigger tires. Just watch your lines and go with other so they can spot you.

Prime example of what good tires and good lines a TRDOR can do.

Yes you do! I'm having a hell of a time getting the swr to tune on the radio. What were you able to get it to. I really need to find a better place to tune it but this concrete jungle sucks for it
