Could be axle wrap or improperly torqued u-bolts. Never had that issue on mine.

In the rear for the e-locker. Front is still a 8"? No?

I had that issue and had it reflashed at the dealership and it went away.
It does shift a little more rough with 1.04 91. Still very happy with it.

Yes for the rear locker. But manual trucks got 8.75 gear and 4.3 ratio even in non OR trims. Front is still same as 2nd gen Tacoma’s.

DCLB with steel front bumper with winch and rear bumper with swingout and rear tire carrier, steel sliders, steel skids, bed rack, rtt... adds up. i used to have a place in my garage to hoist the rtt and bed rack but i sold that house so it lives on the truck full time for now.

I drive normal... i dont speed and i dont accelerate hard. I do a lot of short, city type driving unfortunately. running 1.04 91

1.04 91 here. Avg 22-24 mpg freeway driving, mostly 70 mpg or less. I fill up around 385 miles on the clock with 1/4 tank left.

Unfortunately no it will not fix that. If you use cruise control and set it at anything over 70mph, it will still shift down to 4th gear and hang there for miles and miles on end (flat roads and any head or crosswinds). Highway fuel mileage is garbage in the Tacoma with and without the tune. If you don't use cruise control on highway trips, its much much better. You can actually get it to hold 5th gear sometimes. Maybe my truck and experience is the oddball, but highway driving still sucks IMO.

You have have to be more specific when asking questions about what the tune can help with or fix or make better or worse! Like are you 4x4 or 2x, 33's or stock , A ton of mods adding weight ! Have had the gears done 4.88's. The 3rd Gens for whatever reasons seem to be different from one to another no 2 trucks seem to have the same issue's! If your not specified about having a stock truck or plan on modding it out. You may get several different answers!

Can flash manager 1.09R be used with the dongle? I've have the version that came out with the 1.01 tunes dongle-wise.

It seems like things have changed because I can't get my old version of flash manager to download 1.04, and there's nothing in the mega folder at all anymore after entering decryption key. I was hoping to flash stock because I wanted to take the truck in for some really rough shifting issues.

How can I flash stock and go back to 1.04 in the current state of the world with flash manager? There doesn't seem to be any updated/working instructions. Thanks!

@DavidT I had the exact opposite experience. After installing 104 87 on my auto trans truck, I am now able to actually use cruise control and get better mpg's while doing so. It now shifts when it needs the power, and when it levels out it gets back into 6th. It now has the ability to accelerate going up hill in 5th or 6th depending on the grade, where before it was only able to do it in 4th.
It does seem variable from truck to truck, but that appears to be accross the board for all quirks or major problems with this truck. It has made driving this truck much more predictable and that makes it more enjoyable. I personally don't question the purchase one bit.

The 1.04 91 has made my truck fun to drive. The stumble that a lot of members talk about has stopped. I still use ect a lot because it seems to help accelerate better. In D mode on the freeway it holds speed better on hills and in ect I can hold 80 on steep hills easily. In town it will cruise comfortably in 5th at around 1500rpms.Seems to be a pretty significant increase in power over the 87 tune.

For those who took their truck to the dealership for the ECU update, did you flash the truck back to stock beforehand? The question was asked a couple of pages back, but I didn’t see an answer.

Ive taken it back many times and never flashed back to stock. They have no way of identifying it is tuned.

I just looked at mine and it is the 1.09R. I used that to download the 04b03 package which had all the tunes in it.

The link in the first post is for the dongle-less stuff. Others have had to contact Mat via his support email and get the links needed, iirc. Support email is in first post.

Edit: I just tried and 1.09R is able to download the 04b03 package still. it didnt really notify me but there is a status bar in the app showing how much its downloaded

I'm unable to download anything through 1.09 or 1.09R. 1.09 says it's downloaded, but the files it downloads are just placeholders with a size of 0- nothing in them at all. In 1.09R, most of the menu items are greyed-out and don't do a thing. The calibration files menu is one of them. It seems odd that in the 'check for updates' folder on Mega there is nothing available as well, even to download the latest flash manager version. Right now it seems like I'm SOL unless I contact Matt via email.
