Honestly, it’s trash reviews like this that turn trucks into cars.

Are we still getting upset at what other people think about our beloved Tacos? If we all listened to the "experts" then Toyota would have sold zero Tacomas since 1995, based on CR's nauseating hate for the Tacoma for nearly 25 years.

That said...I hope the competition brings some heat. Toyota’s been playing this midsize game basically by themselves for too long now. Competition is good for the consumer. Hopefully that will bring us even better Tacos in the future

Ok....humour me.....if reviews are meaningful, and people are dumb and just blindly buy crap because they are told to, why does the Ridgeline not sell?

It is consistently voted best truck, truck of the year, critics favourite, etc by some rag or other, but people still don’t buy them? If people are so easily fooled and just do what they are told, why aren’t the below-average-intelligence folk buying the well-reviewed Honda in droves? Why is it always first place in reviews, and last place in sales?

We have people on TW that were smart enough to buy a taco, but not smart enough to test drive it first, research their purchase, or know how to google.

    They can't afford it.

That's why previously owned lots do so well. They finance the shit out of some POS that they put a 50% mark up on.

So if people could afford it they’d all drive Ridgelines, but have to settle for Tacomas? Huh?

I was more making a joke lol.

As for why the RL sells so poorly, that's a tough question. I'm sure for a pretty good percentage of DCSB owners it would work just as well for what they do as a Tacoma, so personal preference plays a big part.

I know for me the Ridgeline went out the window pretty quick when I started shopping, didn't want a crew cab, no MT, too expensive, no low range, not much better gas mileage etc. I won't lie aesthetics played a part, but that was only a small tick for the already ahead Toyota.

Yeah but your premise is retarded. You are saying only good products sell in large numbers. This is demonstrably false. Chrysler/FCA vehicles are consistently rated among the least reliable vehicles on the road, by every publication which ranks such things. Talk to their own salesmen and you will know they admit their products are crap. Why do you think they have such ridiculous incentives and largely prey on people with huge negative equity to roll over? There are fanboys in every brand/product, doesnt mean squat.

You have a very high estimation of the general public. Just look at this forum, a large amount have shelled out tens of thousands of dollars and do nothing but bitch all day about minor things. Now imagine if they had real issues like I dont know, your vehicle shifting out of park on its own and running you over, or not being able to turn off cruise control once you set it.

Now, I am sure you are on the "LOL NOT A TRUCK" and "PFFT LOOKS UGLY" bandwagon in regards to your ridgeline hate, but I got news for you - It isn't a bad vehicle. Just because it doesnt sell well doesnt mean anything. I'd sure as hell rather own a ridgeline than any FCA product

I'm sure your own anecdote outweighs the last 20 years of editorial reviews, user reports, and market data showing that Chrysler is a bad automaker.

That's why people who do what they are told to do, do not purchase Ridgelines. They can't afford them.

I've never been into Hondas I think they are well built vehicles, and the build quality of the Ridgeline looks to be superior over the current Tacoma. I still wouldn't buy one, I'd opt for a Pilot, or Odyessy. I also like the look of the 1st gen Ridgeline over the 2nd.

I compared the 2012 Ridgeline to the 2012 DBCSB Tacoma. The Ridgeline was more money, and had far less potential for after market upgrades. I mostly wanted a compact pick up that I could put aftermarket wheels, and off road tires on.

But the 2012 Ridgeline sucked ass and the 2012 Tacoma was very good.

Hmmm....lots of Frued going on here.

Anyways.....in my retardation I realize that there a lot of factors that make people love their cars, and shill critics don’t always factor into that. Maybe the Chrysler guys like their cars because they get a lot for the money? Maybe they are a great bargain? How do you know what they like about them? If they are poorly rated who is telling people to buy them? That is my point: Your opinion of Chrysler is what is retarded and meaningless. If a guy buys a Jeep or a Ram and is stoked about it, and buys another one a few years later cause he still loves mopar.....that is the ONLY thing that is important. Sales figures.....fullstop......not jackass opinions.

BTW I don’t “hate” the Ridgeline. I think it sells poorly because it looks like balls and had no real functionality anyone is asking for. That’s all.

Unibody vs body on frame was a big deciding factor for me. Between what can be described as very comparable vehicles.

I always liked Toyota trucks growing up, and anyone who owned one said they wish they still had it.

    In comparison yes.

I think the 13 Ridgeline even got a minor cosmetic refresh that I didn't like over the previous year.

There is a guy in the neighborhood I grew up in, had a 1st Gen Xtra cab TRD off road. He upgraded to a 2nd Gen basically same truck probably 10 years ago, and still has it.

Always liked seeing it in his driveway driving past.

Even still, comparing those year Ridgelines to the late 2nd gens is laughable. The Tacomas 2012-2015 pretty much owned the market.
