What is about Fram oil filters that nobody likes? I just did my first oil change and I took the advice "not to buy" from most members on this board. I always used the fram TG "Tough Guard" filter and Penziol oil. I always had success. My subaru had 260K on that stuff, the only thing left good on the car was the engine when I junked it.

For my Taco I found myself buying the Bosch Oil filter, and castrol 5w-30 oil. which I am not familiar with either. I dont put too many miles on, so I wont use sythetic, I put like 5k on in 6mos, so I like to keep my oil fresh, but I just cant see spending 13.95 for a K&N or wix, plus 33.00 for synthetic oil so I thought 47.00 was too much for a DIY oil change.

The Bosch and castrol deal was like 25, which I thought wasnt too bad. I was just curious if why nobody liked the fram filters.

I have never been given any bad advice from this forum, so i did switch. But it almost seems like if you screw a fram filter onto your engine will self implode immediatley.

I too used Fram (or Penske which are Fram with yellow paint) for many years and never had any problems. I've read lots of opinions that Fram sucks. I read lots of opinons that that you get what you pay for and it never pays to be cheap. Since Fram worked out well for me I now use SuperTech or PureOne ... because I can get them cheaper. Fram's are just too darned expensive.

+1. That nut alone is worth the extra money, plus it's a quality filter that filters to 10 microns.

I remember hearing from this forum that Fram was horrible, so yesterday when I went to my auto parts store to get some oil and a filter (5 qts of Conventional Quaker State 10W-30 and a fram filter for $12.99) I asked him about it and he said there aren't many filter manufacturers in the world. Most of the names we see are strictly rebranded. Fram, Microgard, Wix are all rebranded, he said. The only two really different ones are K&N and Mobil. I don't know how true it is, but I ended up getting a shitty filter anyway for my 94 Corolla. 200K miles, and its only had Frams lol

    Show me some links.

I've never heard of people having problems because of an oil filter, let alone....a Fram. It's probalby some dumb ass people who can't do their oil changes properly and decided to blame Fram and get a lawsuit out of it.

If Fram was so bad, they'd be off the market.

True, but rebranded isn't necessarily a bad thing. Wix and Napa Gold are "rebranded", made by Dana, but they are quality filters. There used to be a webpage with most filters, who makes them, what they are made of and how well they work. I'll see if I can find it - it's pretty interesting.

I think Toyota's OEM filter are made by Denso.
