Anyone have a problem with their tailgate? My easy down feature is no longer working. Not sure where to start. Ive been searching the forums and can’t seem to come up with anything.

Same here sorta. Mine still has the delay but not as much as it used to be. I really liked the feature especially around children which I have plenty of. Mine acted up after taking the truck to southern Utah on a mini overlanding trip through canyonlands. Sand maybe?

There's a little shock inside the bed behind the tail lense. Take out the tail lense and see how it looks.

No issues with mine after 2.5 years with the truck. Also our tundra from 08 still has the delay with no issue so 10+ years. And its the same tech.

I’m thinking of tearing the tailgate apart and seeing what makes it work.?

My rotary dampeners seem to be holding up fine. No rust either after it spend last winter in the Great Lakes. Do you have a photo? It may be hard to assess if everything looks normal though. Have you talked to the dealer?

I’m way out of mileage warranty. So I’ll be fixing it myself.

You can tear it apart, but it’s the hinge on the side

I’m not sure, it may be both sides. They can be replaced, you can actually take your tailgate off in about 10 seconds.

That’s a whole another issue with theft, if it’s not locked.

I don’t think you should need to tear it down like that to get to the dampeners. OP, do you have anything aftermarket? Pop n’ Lock or DIY tailgate lock failsafe for if you forget to lock with the key?

Have you ever taken your tailgate off?

I’ll look into it. But I don’t want to replace tailgate parts every year and a half.

I don’t have any theft prevention devices. Not a big problem around here. And I have never had the tailgate off. I do use it ALot. On average of 25-30 times a day.

I’m sure you can get the parts elsewhere it just came up in a search, they must have used good search engine optimization.

Isnt there a tsb on this? The bushing inside the hinge on the right hand side of the tailgate being broken. Ive seen a few replaced one with the damper under warranty.
If you remove the tailgate you will be able to tell if just the bushing is broken or you also need the damper there may be an updated part available if i remember right. And im pretty sure i had to take the bumper off to replace the damper too.
