I'm not ready to defend Bungie just yet.

That said... this quest came out of no where. And the entire quest was created just for this sniper. The thing is, it isn't a quest like the Black Spindle where it was just an offshoot of the Daily. This was a completely new area they created just for this one quest and it is a lot of fun and well thought out. It didn't reuse any part of an existing area of the map. It is completely new.
Starts off with an insane jumping puzzle then 4 separate rooms with an insane amount of taken enemies that concludes with having to kill 3 taken bosses at the end all within a 20 min time constraint. Then you have to go back in and do the heroic version to get the Catalyst. Then go back in once again and open 5 hidden chests and then shoot three waves of oracles to get the 6th chest. After you open the sixth chest you will be at 12% on the Catalyst and you will receive a blueprint for a new exotic ship. Go back in and do the heroic (once again lol) and you will get the Catalyst to 36% which is the highest you could get it this week. That's pretty much all we did on Saturday. On Sunday we helped others in the clan get through the quest since it is no joke. Once you figure out where everything spawns it isn't too bad but the first couple of times it was mass chaos lol.

Datto neglects to say that there are 3 different bosses that spawn in the public event area. Not just one. You will be fighting them once again at the end but they are much more powerful.

Man stuff like this is what initially made Bungie for the little easter eggs that they made as back then they liked giving back. I wonder if they are slowly relearning what it is to give more than less? Either way, its a step in the right direction and such a shock to see only new stuff dedicated solely for this which I assume required no additional funds from folks who have the updated dlc right?

Living vicariously through you RVM was a good call.

They did this later in D1 and failed to push those changes across to D2 in any capacity. FO76...hurry up!

I completely agree with what you said. It was good to see this come out of nowhere and no... it didn't cost anything else (unless you wanted to buy the ornaments from Eververse which, conveniently, happened to appear at the same time the quest was active  ). I assume it is available for anyone since it spawns in a public event. That said... you are going to want to be completely maxed out before even attempting this quest. It's the first thing that has actually made me feel like we did something in quite a long time once we got it finished. That's all we did on Saturday and it took us four attempts to get though it. The worst part was just hanging out and waiting on the correct public event which made it even more stressful knowing that if you didn't finish it you would have to sit around and wait on another public event. It wasn't the 20 min timer that was stressful. It was knowing that you might have to wait upwards of an hour or more to attempt it once again. We were lucky and got it three times in a row so we could finish it rather quickly. Once you finish it you get access to the heroic quest and it is a destination on your map so you could go in anytime you wanted which made it much easier. I love the fact that it is time gated for each weekend so it isn't active all the time.
I loved reading all the comments on the Bungie forums saying it was too hard or that the casual player couldn't get it. Fuck off... it isn't suppose to be easy lol. If you really want something like this in the game you are going to have to play with others. And your going to have to play with others that know what they are doing and how to play their class. You will have to coordinate your load outs, when to use supers, etc... The game catering to casual players is what made the game suck in it's release state. I'm glad there are quests like this that are hard. It makes it feel more special once you finish it. Once you figure out where everything is it is solo-able. I didn't try it solo but we did two man it while our third was stuck at the jumping puzzle.

They failed to push any of the stuff that made D1 great over to D2 IMO. They took away the most meaningful changes to D1 that made it great toward the end and completely went backwards. They are finally starting to move in the right direction though so here's to hoping the trend continues.

may be the case currently, but no more of my money will be going towards Destiny. fooled me once with D1, made it better, fooled me twice with D2 and D2 DLCs. not gonna get fooled again :D

Agree. I bought both expansions and I've bought the Forsaken expansion also. The main reason I play is because of the people that I play with. If this were a single player game or I was playing it like a single player game I would have dropped it a very long time ago.

I bought it just because we still all play it. I've got a group that I PvP with almost everyday and a group that I PvE with. Two real close friends and I play together all the time so we just go in and fuck around and have fun. This game is a social game and I can't understand why people would choose to play it solo all the time. I do understand time constraints etc... and if someone wants to go in and just shoot shit in the face the mechanics are top notch. But if someone wants to get the most out of the game they will have to play with others.

My personal opinion is someone should not be able to reach max level without doing the raids or trials. Much like when D1 came out and I was stuck at 29 1/2 but I wanted to be 30. I created a clan and we were able to farm VoG to get to that end goal.

That is cool reading this as it reminds me of the crota expansion when it first came out. Yea the expansion wasn't that long, but man I remember everyone saying that they all died at crota and that to get all the witches down to even take on crota at one point seemed near impossible. Eventually, the myth of someone actually beating crota was starting to be believed. At some point, either your team became a genious with the sword or you got carried by someone else...but the goods of the expansion were finally dropped when you won. I think I must have beat crota about 80 times or so and man everytime it felt awesome to beat in the beginning because there was not room for error and before the light level buff, guys had to have their shit ready to go and be in sync to make sure no one got aced at the wrong moment. As the light level got better, it was fun to be able to run and gun the mission more...but I remember that expansion really bringing everyone together especially in the beginning. I know many regard crota as a weak rip off, but for the struggles and attention it got from me...man it was worth it.

Well shoot hodge, I feel good that atleast I didn't get burned as bad as you did then! :D

I played D1 up until TTK was getting ready to drop and then became one of the chosen salty year one guys. My friends convinced me that bungie had finally learned the hard way and that D1 was testament to their learning curve of wanting to make a better product which D1 became from what I hear so I bought D2. Im not salty over that purchase like I was with my diminished hope of D1 and how long I kept holding out for the game to get better as D2 took me a minute to level up since I didn't hit it hard everyday like most probably did. Then the first DLC came out, and as a seasoned destiny guy I knew to hold my cash for a minute and when Osiris fell flat...yea man me and the boys felt it was the time to retire D2 because unlike D1...we got other games to play now.

Shocking twist though...one of my OG buddies from D1 and D2 decided at warmind to buy in and get up to date on D2. I texted him asking how that was going the other day...yet to hear a response though.

Yea man that was largely my problem...as cool as D is in that it brought in a lot of friends that I had no other reason to friend...they all have abandoned D as a whole. If Im lucky I might have TWO friends playing D these days. Its not hard to find one of my friends, but two of them playing online at the same time is a challenge. For my friends anyway, the days of D have come and past or else I wouldn't have a problem playing around in it more.

Crota has always been my least favorite raid. It was way too short and just not fun IMO. Hell... I soloed it when you could still glitch the second lamp and shoot you up to the top level where you didn't have anything coming after you. All you needed to do was take down the Ogre and you were in the next room. Then take the sword across the chasm and wait for the Ogres to come out. Crota was easy. Grab the chalice, take down the sword knight, jump on the rocks next to him drop the sword and take his shield down, and hit him with the sword. Once they fixed the glitches it still wasn't very hard even on hard mode. Any raid you can finish in less than 30 mins is a strike in my opinion. VoG was and still is one of my favorite raids along with Oryx. I have always hated Crota. The only good thing about Crota was the Black Hammer.

Unfortunately you left at the wrong time. TTK expansion was awesome. I had all but given up on Destiny after PoE dropped. But TTK renewed my faith in Bungie. It was an awesome expansion.

CoO sucked balls for an expansion. Warmind is much better but nowhere near as good as TTK. The Spire of Stars raid just isn't fun IMO. There is a stupid long jumping puzzle (if you could even call it that) that is just filler to make the raid seem longer than it actually is. The last boss fight is pretty fun and it is the most mechanically challenging raid encounter that Bungie has ever created because you have to do so much in a short period of time. I completed it once and that was enough for me. It just isn't fun.

That said... D2 is slowly getting better. I'm not getting hyped about Forsaken but I bought it because we all still play it. I hope it is good as it seems they are moving in the right direction. But time will tell if that is the case.

With crota I totally understand as many did it with ease while other casuals like myself would always need a guy who just knew all the workings in the early days. It wasn't so much that crota was an epic raid as like you said, it was so short it was really a strike...but at the time destiny was still going decently strong with the hype and so many of my friends were playing it pretty hard. This made for many opportunities to play with buddies and just have a good time whether it was good or bad.

I def bailed at the wrong time for sure as TTK was the first product to finally live up to the hype and strongly believe that expansion alone secured so many preorders for D2. Like I said though, if I was a year two guy and had an awesome experience with TTK I would have been getting more and more butthurt right now as I would have started with such high expectations. Im glad I started it like the other guys in year one and got to see bungie for what they are...As usual man I look forward to your continuing experience with D2!

Yeah... I wish you could have played TTK. It really was a very good expansion. RoI wasn't bad and Wrath of the Machine was a good raid. Especially the quest to get the Outbreak Prime. Then they brought all the raids back with the new level cap which gave you a reason to play them once again.

And your right about the butthurt with D2. If it weren't for the people that I play with I would have dropped this game a long time ago. It is slowly getting better but it shouldn't have been this way. Catering to the casual player base is what caused it's biggest downfall IMO. I'm still not getting hyped about Forsaken. At the time I wasn't getting hyped about TTK either after suffering through PoE but it turned out to be awesome. I hope the same happens with this expansion. Time will tell.

The thing that really bothers me is that we stand to finally get the game we paid for a year after release (again) and we have to pay more money to get it (again)

Well... I said I wasn't going to get hyped about Forsaken. I'll say that I'm about as hyped as I was right before TTK came out. It looked promising but I had all but given up on the game at that time. But so far from everything that I've seen Forsaken looks to be a pretty good expansion. I hope I don't have to come back and eat my words. One thing I will say is it looks as if they are going to give us plenty to do and chase in the game which is what the game has been lacking for the last year. Random rolls coming back is a game changer for me "personally" as it will give me a reason to log in and chase that certain god roll weapon. PvP looks to be shaping up nicely also. I hope so because that's all we do in the game right now since there isn't anything else do do at the moment.

Played competitive for a while tonight and it started off a little rough but we got our groove back.
