    Exactly.

I stuck with chrome on my second GEN. Loved them. I’ll have to cave-in with black on my third GEN now unfortunately.

Thank you. I’m in Baltimore, Maryland area.

Has anyone used Greyhound or Amtrak to ship wheels? I’ve heard it works well and is inexpensive. I recently shipped and exhaust on Greyhound, cost about $50 from Baltimore to Burlington, VT.

That’s right. I forgot about Greyhound for shipping (used them once 35 years ago and went great)

I have to agree with JoeCova on many of his points. @toyotatacomaTRD selling price is PURELY determined by availability and desirability. In Ontario Canada OR rims are fairly rare on the buy and sell sites. Also the buyers are pretty rare as well. I bought a set for $500 as winter spares that his wife had posted for $800. It was the only listing in 6 months I had been looking. It was a 2.5 hour drive away which was local considering I would have been days driving for anything I saw listed stateside or in Vancouver.

If in your area they go for $300 that’s the price in THAT LOCATION. To argue someone is a sucker shows a lack of intelligence or an inability to accept any point of view but your own. @JoeCOVA makes a valid point that people buy TRD rims as an upgrade vs a replacement. You choose your upgrade which may mean some haggling on price and trying to move more product and generating profit that the consumer could choose to spend elsewhere. OEM OR rims are a stock option and a replacement when damaged or a full rim set replacement. You tend to get much less movement on price on these items because you NEED them.

To whom? I got a 2nd set for $550 with almost new tires still on them off CL and there were 2 other sets in the same zip code for sale at the same time. If they were more than that I'd have just bought something else for less than $600 to chuck snow tires on.

Perhaps you mean to say "should be worth more" or "wish they were worth more". They sell for what people are willing to pay. Which, typically, is a couple hundred less than cheap, cool looking aftermarket wheels at Tirerack.

OR wheels sell new from dealers for $1600 for a set of 4. Regardless they cost more than TRD wheels. They sell cheap because the used market bottomed out because people artificially lowered their value because they didn’t know their worth.

It was never about what people were willing to pay. Everyone basically low balled themselves.

If you paid $1600 for aftermarket wheels would you sell them for $400? Hell no. The difference is you know what you paid for them. OR wheels came with the truck and no one knew what they were worth.

A bunch of people started selling them cheap and that became the defacto price point. It was done in ignorance more than supply and demand.

That's really not it at all. OR wheels since my 2nd gen have hovered around that price. I know because I had a set of oem rims I sold for $400 back in 07. Then got aftermarket wheel's that didn't like the road salt, picked up another oem set for $400 used to run during the winter. Then got black powdercoated that I could run year round, sold another OEM set for around $400.

The reason the 3rd Gen OEM at dealerships have a high price tag is because nobody buys them from the dealership. Nobody is keeping them in stock because nobody wants them. You can look in any major market at any time and pick them up for the $400 range. As a business owner, why would I stock something I'm not going to sell? You don't. And yes, I know you claimed to get your $800 asking, but the reality, that's not common.

They stock them. Even my wife’s OEM Subaru wheels were $400 a piece.

Most people don’t buy a new set but people often buy single wheels or two wheels due to warping or damage. In our case we had 1 damaged Subaru wheel.

Others buy singles to match the spare.

Even OP sold them for over $400

If you paid $400 for one subaru wheel, I hope you got $800 for your Tacoma take offs, because if so, you got taken for a ride.

The problem with the Stock OR and Sport wheels is that EVERY new sport or OR comes with them standard. If they came standard with steelies and you had to PAY to upgrade the wheels to Aluminum (Generally about $600), then the take off market price of them would be alot higher. If I had to replace 1 wheel, because they are so abundantly available on craigslist, I could get a new set here in Hawaii for $600, and sell them individually for about $150-200 each for others looking for a replacement spare. If I were to go to the dealer to get a replacement, they would charge retail for them at $400 each. In the case of the Subaru wheels, most people who purchase a Subaru wont be changing their rims to aftermarket, therefore there wont be much for sale on craigslist so you will be forced to pay for an individual rim at the dealer. Alot of Tacomas have aftermarket wheels, therefore the market is flooded and prices are based on supply and demand. Not every market is the same. One market the fair price would be $800 for the set, another $300.

Not really - I needed a 2nd set of wheels. I didn't care what they were but I certainly cared what they cost. There is no planet on which I would pay over $1000 for OE wheels when quality aftermarket wheels exist for $600-$800. So, the OE cast-off market is sub-$600 or everyone gets to keep their old wheels in their basement. They are good quality wheels - but they sell them for what they are worth to buyers. Which is $400-600 depending on how much good tire I get with the deal. That is all they are worth to ME, and, apparently the market agrees because that IS the going rate. So, all arguments to the contrary - I can buy them for under $600 all day long. That IS what they are worth.
