    Ok. So still can't decide on setup. Read 100s of posts. Can anyone chime in on their setup, pros and cons. I am going with the 888 coil. Just need to decide on shocks. Also, is there a major lift difference between the 5100 and the Extended kit from Headstrong. Or is it more for the down travel? Not doing any crazy off-roading. Light trails, mountain trips, etc. Would like to fit 33s with minimal cutting and closest I can get to 3in

    Also, if I go with OME setup, I wont be able to put 5100s on there later, correct?

    The extended 5100s is in reference to the rear shocks...if you're lifting over 2.5" in the rear then you'll want the extended ones so you don't over extend the shock when the truck flexes. Should look into an extended rear brake line as well for that much lift.

    The OME setup comes with it's own shocks so you won't need 5100s (unless the OME setup is only for the front). But yes you could always switch out the OME shocks for 5100s later down the line if you wanted to. The front shock/coil would have to be disassembled and the 5100s put in place.

    Ok. But you couldnt run the standard 5100s in the back, right? Because of the dakars?

    I ran OME on my last Tacoma and am running 5100s on my current Tacoma. They're both solid options and I'm just as happy with the 5100s as I was with OME. I know that may not help your dilemma of choosing one lol

    If you're lifting the rear you will want the extended ones

    Could you? Sure, you could.

    My .02, run what is designed and made to work together. If you want Dakars, I would use OME shocks in the rear. Similarly, I would run OME shock with OME coils over Bilstein.

    The Dakars lift the rear 2.5" if I'm not mistaken, at least they do on 1st gens. I would run extended ones personally but I'm not 100% sure what the rule is on 3rd gens. Typically with anything 2.5" or over you want the extended shocks.

    Best bet would be to call up Marie @HeadStrong Off-Road, she'll get you set up with what you need for your truck. They're very knowledgable

    Oh and yes, you can run 5100s with Dakars. The leaf springs and the shocks don't have to be the same brand, they are independent of one another. But some will say that you should run OME shocks with OME leafs, others will say it doesn't matter. I run extended Icons with my Dakar pack and it's a great combo. Beware of the Dakar squeak though...it's a very real and annoying phenomenon

    I am not biased. I currently have OME in the front and Bilsteins in the rear. Needed a cheap shock with 12" of travel for my rear setup.

    Rear leafs come down to weight. How much weight you carry, haul etc.

    I had an AAL at first, towed a pontoon boat once and they were flat. Made the switch to Dakars with the
    $82 D29XL Leaf Spring
    D29XL AAL and have not regretted it once.

    Toyota leaf springs are shit. AALs of any kind will simply be a bandaid. Do it once, do it right. Swap out the leaf pack.

    If the 3rd gen Dakars are anything like the 1st and 2nd gen ones, you'll need to add a leaf (AAL) to them to get a full 3" lift out of them. Otherwise they run closer to 2.5". Assuming we're talking about a standard Dakar pack.

    Ok thanks! Thinking of going with the OME setup then. That way can run the Dakars and be good to go without extended brake lines. I dont off road too much. Could I get 3in out of the ome and dakar setup? Ive seen where people added an additional 1/4 to the front on both sides as well

    IMO and I think most on here would agree...if you're doing a 3" lift in the rear you should get extended brake lines. I think that's actually more important than extended shocks. If you over extend your stock brake line it can easily snap and then you're in real trouble.

    Extended rear brake line can be had for ~$30, it's affordable peace of mind really

    For the peace of mind and while it is already apart, my recommendation, get the brake lines. Again, peace of mind and you never have to worry again.
