Rear wheel extended stud replacement

Hello world,

I just recently bought some new wheels but will require extended lug studs to ride safely(only grabs the third thread). I’ve watched videos on how to change out the fronts but yet to see one for the rear wheels. There isn’t enough space behind the studs to fit extended ones. It seems I may have to take the brake drum off. I want to stay away from wheel spacers with extended lug studs because the new tires and wheels will already extend them out. If anyone has dealt with this please advice, thanks!

if I remember from my past 3 Toyota trucks, you have to take your brake drum off and there should be a hole in the back of the axle housing and you can replace the studs one at a time thru the hole, it may have a rubber grommet over it...just can't remember which Toyota I replaced one of them on?..good luck

 

That grommet and hole is for adjusting the brake shoes, it's not big enough to fit a stud through. I had to drill a 3/4" hole in the backing plate to get ARP studs into the hub. I bought some 3/4" rubber plugs from Amazon to seal off the drilled holes.

 

That’s not what I was talking about, I had a hole somewhere back there and I punched the stud thru it and replaced it with no problem, just can’t remember which vehicle?

 

I didn't see any hole when I was back there on my 3rd gen

 

I could be wrong, sorry, haven't even had the rear drums off of this one yet, I got 90k miles on the rear drums on my T100..

 

I just bought a set of extended length lug nuts for my aftermarket wheels they work great.
