@Edmontontaco great product!! I finally tried the hitchvault today and I think it’s awesome. I also have the hitchsafe and when I compare the two the hitchvault looks and feels a 1000x stronger. I’m going to retire the hitchsafe and use the hitchvault from now on for sure.

Kinda defeats the purpose by putting "Hitch vault" on something you want to be somewhat inconspicuous. Cool product.

You can’t really see the writing unless you look really good. I believe he’s making the next batch without any writing. The purpose is to lock and protect the fob and it definitely does that. It doesn’t even matter if people know what it is, it’ll be super difficult to break in. The alternatives are even less inconspicuous. For what I use it for it’s perfect!

Yeah, that’s really what that says. Only good looking people can break in.

I made a paracord lanyard for my FOB and wear it as a necklace under my shirt everyday all day. I go hiking, biking, running, swimming, lifting weights, surfing, skiing, white water rafting, etc with it on. Heck i even wear it into the shower once or twice a week to keep the paracord clean. The only time i take it off is when im sleeping. I never have to worry about losing it and you cant even notice that i have it on under my shirt.

I dont understand why everyone is so worried about keeping these fobs dry. if you open one up and take a look at its internal construction you will see that the buttons are all one integrated peice of silicone that seal up completely water tight against the body of the FOB, water will not get inside. Even if it did and you fried the electronics you can still use it to start the truck by holding it near the start button which uses an nfc like technology (separate from its normal rfid circuitry) to authenticate the key and start the engine (this even works if you completely remove the battery from the FOB btw, neat tidbit incase your fob battery dies)

Anyone ever try putting the fob in the original bag of an E-Z Pass. Those bags are signal blocking. I’m guessing they both run off the same principles.

I'm considering doing something similar when camping cause I'm worried I'll lose it.

Thinking either do the sequence to stop transmitting to see if I can get it to be able to lock inside the truck or put it in a ziplock bag and wrap in foil or something to block is transmitting then get one of those key lock box things and just lock it somewhere in the bed.

Just needs to be either far enough to not transmit to the door for the touch entry or blocked. Then lock it up say on one of the tie downs. It would likely be hidden under gear anyways but this way it's locked.

Or even put the lock box somewhere under the truck or something. If I can lock it in the truck I could just use the physical key to enter.

You could pick up a hitch vault! Sounds like it would work perfect for you, it blocks the signal of the fob too. There’s a sale on at hitchvault.ca and you get 10 percent off the whole order.

What I do when I go running or goto the beach, I disable the key fob by holding the lock button and while holding the lock button press the unlock button twice. This disables the signal of the fob, after that I take the manual key out lock the fob in the glove compartment or leave it unlocked whatever and clip the key to a zipper put it in my pocket. That way lets say I loose the key I can still drive home just have AAA open the truck or if you want you can stash the manual key up in the engine bay with tie-wire. I just hold the key on me and since it's manual I don't have to worry about water damage or breaking the fob.

This is a good idea. My luck, someone would break in, discover the key, accidentally hitting a button to activate it, then drive off with my truck Duke's of Hazzard-ing it all over the place.

If you look on the website, you can buy a combination locking pin. Works perfectly and no keys needed.

That works but you have to worry about losing the valet key and would still have to wait for AAA. With the combo pin and vault, your whole key fob is secure at your vehicle and you don’t need to worry about losing anything or keeping track of any key.

If someone is going to steal your truck, they are going to steal your truck. People have been known to steal your car just from the signal of the key being in your house or you locking the truck as you walk away in the parking lot. The tech is out there to steal these trucks fast, unless you put a sign on your truck saying you left the fob in the truck they're not planning on stealing the truck with the fob. They're going to steal it because they want it. Plus the OP was speaking of being out hunting and in the outdoors. I doubt some duck is going to break into the truck and go dukes of hazzard in the truck and if he does, that duck deserves that truck period.

I don't like them - Combination locking pin will rust and wont last long. I used to have combination locks for my storage shed and was a pain over time, waist of money and time imho.

I thought of that but just figured the lock box was better. My hitch takes quite the beating on trail lol
