Anyone else use a clear silicone like OregontoBajaCA? If so how did it turn out? Any issues in very cold environments (below zero) or very hot environments?

    Considering this fix.

It’s cost effective, easy to work with and sticks well to smooth surfaces. 4A99B216-97D7-404B-83A5-2E89D4F0ABB1.jpg 8EEA45A1-0BF1-48C1-A0D0-1A99F511C4D0.jpg 8C51EC4E-0810-4AA7-A1B0-79E679454276.jpg

Nice I'll give that a shot! I assume any 100% silicone caulk/sealant will work? My worst fear is dimpling or creating dents, especially during the cold wisconsin winters.

How long has this been holding up for you? I definitely don't want a repainted hood. Looks like this stuff is pretty expensive and then you need a gun to use. I assume there's a better place to buy than the $100 combo kit on Amazon.

So far so good. Noticeably less movement yet still some give if needed. Wouldn't want it to be drum tight. Doesn't bounce up and down or ripple with a semi truck wind wave. I haven't even popped the hood since I did it so that means its working cause I forget about it. I was not able to find a lower price than Amazon and I looked for a long time. Price of the NVH is high but it works. If you want to buy my COX Multi Ratio Low Viscosity Manual Epoxy Applicator aka the gun, make me an offer.

Still no TSB in july 2018, dealer acted like they had never heard of this problem (have it on my new 2018. Built in baja). Took to the dealer this AM for this and a faulty drivers side door seal. Will see what happens

Well now I know the most likely reason for the hood vibration I've been noticing since I picked mine up last week. Will have to check under the hood when I get home to make sure.

you probably wont be very happy. take it to the dealer and open up the hood and point it out directly. If you get a -weasel- manager, ask for one of the actual techs to look at it (that's what I had to do, tech came over, immediately agreed with me, and looked at the mgr like he was a moron)

What about liquid nails? I believe is even stronger and weather proof.

But it might leave dents in the hood... Best to use the stuff made to do the job.

My dealer sent me to a body shop 2 times to fix this on a brand new 2018 Tacoma TRD OR. Both times the body shop put a black glue like material between the hood and the hood frame. Both times it failed to fix the problem. The body shop stated the hood needs to be replaced. Toyota said they will not replace the hood as they don't see it as a defect. After sending me to a body shop to fix the problem, you then tell me its not a problem to be fixed?!? Really Toyota??? I spoke with both the head of the dealerships service department and corporate. Neither would budge... A disgrace for a hood to be bobbling around on a 40k dollar truck. My lawyer will be contacting them soon.

It doesn't appear to be specific to third gens as I just noticed this a week or two ago on my 2nd gen. All of the glue points in the center have failed.
My impression of the problem is that if the adhesive used is not flexible enough the hood will flex unevenly and become creased. As for using expanding foam sealant there is more than one type. Though I'd prefer to use the oem compound(but a little more of it in a few more places) if I were stuck for choices I'd go with the window and door foam that expands less and remains flexible. I have doubts about whether it would hold up though.

I barely got to put 60mi on my brand new sr5 when I noticed the hood flapping, esp on the freeway. I pulled back into the dealership and showed them the problem- there was at least a 1/8" gap in the adhesive joints. The GM himself took look and said the toyota engineers were to be intown the next day, to look an another problem, and that he would show them my problem. I ended up getting a call back and they are holding my truck for 10-12 days as they put on a new hood and paint. it had better be perfect, with new OE underhood stickers and bolts painted! Ill post outcome.

Glad they agreed to replace the hood for you. My dealer said the same exact thing about a Toyota engineer coming to town in the next few days who wanted to take a look. He scheduled a time for me to come back when he would be there. I drove over an hour to get there, no Toyota engineers ever showed up.. If you are in SC, avoid Fred Anderson of Charleston. The sales dept is great, the service dept is horrible. My hood should have been replaced months ago when the truck was brand new. Instead, the truck now has around 5k miles, I'm dealing with lawyers and countless hours of wasted time to get a new hood.

The kicker here is the body shop that repaired the hood submitted the work order to insurance. Now my brand new truck shows up as damaged on carfax. GOOD TIMES!!

Same thing happened with my SR5...After 3 attempts to get new hood painted correctly and over a month in a loaner vehicle I ended up with my TRD Sport. I hope they get yours correct the first time. If I had to do it again I would have never let them replace the hood, I would have made them re-caulk it.

Do not. Needs to remain flexible for the life of the vehicle.

Just use clear outdoor silicone, it will flex but be much sturdier
