So I bought a Toyota OEM hitch from a guy in Austin, TX a few weeks ago. It was $40 the man told me in broken english it fit a Tacoma and it matched my frame width. Yesterday I tried to fit it on and none of the bolts lined up unfortunately. My new exhaust hanger from my OME lift was in the way also.

I threw the part # 00214-35930 in google and came up with no compatibility list on any website on the two pages of results. I called two dealers and both couldn't figure out what vehicle this hitch is for. Any ideas? Once I figure out I can throw this one up for sale and start looking for another.

Usually accessories are given a PTxxx-xxxxx number. For example the PT791-04050 is the add-on hitch for a 2nd gen Tacoma but the OEM number for a factory one I think is 51908-04010. I don't know which, if either, would be stamped into the part itself and if they are even the same thing.

For a 1st gen did Toyota even install hitches at the factory? They may all be dealer add-on, so that number may only be relevant to the actual manufacturer (probably done under contract, I'd think).

Pretty sure I've read before that the OME hanger interferes with mounting a hitch, fwiw.

I have an OEM tow hitch than came off of another 1998 and it bolted up fine after I purchased some missing nuts and bolts.

The way the reciever tube is welded to the hitch looks completely different than mine. It’s possible it could be for a Toyota Pickup, for example. People tend to use Pickup and Tacoma interchangeably.

Now that I look at it, it’s a different part number entirely. That’s not a Tacoma tow hitch. See picture below:

The part number should be: PT214-04994 which is for a 1998 Tacoma. Look at how the reciever tube is attached to the hitch versus yours, it’s completely different. My guess is he sold you a Toyota Pickup or T100 hitch.

Figured. It’s probably for a Pickup since people like to use Tacoma and Pickup interchangeably.

I could modify it to fit but I’m not really liking the idea of drilling into my frame. Finding these used around here is difficult so I might just go without for now.

That’s not even close to how it should look like. That’s for a Pickup.

Why don’t you just buy one new? Curt ships them for about $100.

Not for a pick up either. The hitch on my 92 is more similiar to the one on my 04 than OP's pics.

Quick Google search has led me to the conclusion that there were several styles of hitches for that truck. OP's hitch probably fits a pickup. Maybe I just have an oddball that looks like a Taco hitch on my 92.

Here's what google claims to be a hitch for a 1992 Toyota Pickup. Close to Op's but not exact75031_a.jpg

I’m planning on a relentless rear bumper in the future so spending ~$115 new might be better off put towards that. I get by ok without.... 628DF646-BBAA-49D1-BEA4-F6E8517031E8.jpg

Do have to admit having a tow hitch is nice. Haha.

Can’t you use the bumper ball on your stock bumper for the time being? As long as it’s under 3,500 pounds you’re fine.

Yeah it’s an option for jet skis and stuff like that. Having a rear recovery point was one reason i wanted the hitch though. I’ll list the hitch for sale locally as a Toyota pickup for now.

I would just get a brand new hitch, there’re relatively inexpensive. Worth every penny - I use mine all the time.
