If you blow your front diff you have to disconnect your driveline. With the hubs just unlock and drive home with a broken diff wont effect you front end.

My previous truck had manual hubs and it was the best setup ever. I just wish I had the cash laying around for this.

Looking forward to doing this when funds are available. Best way to do 2lo for sure. I miss my crawler and having dual tcase but this will make my downhill descents much smoother now. Mahalo

The biggest deal is that it allows you to do 2Lo. This can make boat ramps and backing heavy trailers a lot easier on the truck, esp the MTs. Of course, 2Lo is big multiplier, so you would not want to go snapping the throttle and such, esp in reverse (the weak direction for the diff).

Otherwise, it completely disconnects the front driveline. So, the CVs are no longer rotating. This has the side benefits of eliminating the diff needle bearing vibes, maybe saving a bit of fuel, and stopping the diff from rotating the planetary gears possibly saving some wear since they are always spinning due to the ADD setup.

Just snapped an outside cv (the one next to the hub) on my Total Chaos +2 LT axle. The axle only takes the OEM CV and boot. Does your kit parts list include a new CV? I want to go to this set up and if the CV i need is included that makes it a lot easier to justify.
    thanks

I have seen the video of the pipe method before to remove the outer CV. I heard it is a giant pain in the ass and doesnt work sometimes. Have you done it before on an OEM tacoma axle?

First picture in OP shows everything included for each side. When you say CV I’m assuming by your description that you’re talking about the outboard joint of the CV axle. Just so we’re on the same page, CV axle is composed of an inboard joint (mates into carrier diff), outboard joint (mates into hub/bearing assembly) and shaft.
    Short answer, yes lol

Both of mine. One dropped right out, second not so lucky. I found a supplier for the shafts after that, wish I would of found first lol would have gladly paid $60

Yes saving cv boots. Saving wear on front drivetrain. Save fuel. And my personal favorite. Having 2lo option without having to do dual cases. Don’t get me wrong I loved my dual case setup in my old crawler. I just couldn’t justify the cost on my DD/monthly off-roader. So this to me is one of the best mods hands down if you off-road your DD.

    What's 2 mpg savings over 20,000 miles at $3.50/gal?

Fuel is about $3.65/gal where I live but I realize that's high vs national average, however VERY likely to be well above $3.50 40k miles down the road.

With these numbers it will pay for itself after 60k miles, realistically well before that with the way gas prices are going up.
