Just got back from having 04B04 applied.

Since i'm coming from 04B03 the changes are not as drastic as they may be for others. I just did 200 miles highway after my 5k checkup, oil filter change, and TSB.

    Pros:
City feels just a bit better. Truck's throttle is a bit more responsive and shifts are smooth. No rev hang (holding 4th). No clunks that I experienced.
Highway throttle feels better in 5th and 6th. Less of that boat anchor/dead pedal feeling. It holds 5th just a bit longer before downshifting to 4th for hills but definitely 'feels' more willing to move.

I managed 23.2mpg going 70mph with varied flat and hilly highways. (Please note i'm stock tire height)

Less hanging on to 4th once cresting a hill. Truck smoothly moves to 5th and 6th once the load decreases.

    Cons:
Cruise Control doesn't seem any better. Still aggressively shifts to 4th when a more aggressive throttle input in 5th would have sufficed.
Throttle is not as aggressive as OVTune's.

Is the Toyota update in the right direction? Yes, does it fix everything? No. More power or better gearing is the only thing that will fix that shitty 5th gear ratio.

I never really floor this truck so I can't speak to overall power of 04B04 vs 1.04 91. For now, i'm going to let this percolate until 1.05 comes out and then I'll be able to contrast them better.

i only ran the 1.04 91. My mileage was about the same tuned, sometimes a bit worse actually usually in the mid 22's.

I took my truck in to have the new TSB performed and was told that it was only for trucks at “high elevation” and my dealer wouldn’t do it. Is this true?

Can you tell them you experienced this at high elevation?

Give them the 58 TSB and you'll get the same updates for the ECU.

or just tell them to fuck off and that if a patch is available you want it applied and if they don't you'll take your business to another dealership.

I mean if someone takes their truck to Toyota, then it gets updated by them without them asking for it, they can download 04B04 tunes, so they won't lose out.
Regarding software I'm seeing about possibly having people be able to update their ECU from any version to 04B04 tuned. Skip the dealer process entirely and still get the TSB version applied and tune at the same time.

if your truck gets 22-23mpg pretty consistently that's going to be difficult to beat. Most people get considerably worse mpg.
Bone stock our R&D Truck got at best 17.5 highway on stock tune.

You should go tests drive the 2018 to see if that's true.

The next questions you SHOULD have asked are:
Mind if I drive the 2018 the same way I drive mine? That would prove you right after all.
Would the dealer in the next town over be able to verify it also?
Did you drive it on the highway? Over 60? up and down hills?
How about heavy stop and go traffic?
How about you have the tech that did all this driving, drive me around with the same tests?

    Finally...

Just either show me how Toyota thinks I am wrong... Or <Service writer's full name> do you prefer I just discuss this with Corporate?

Agreed and I don’t see how much could be gained if any unless regeared and that may hurt mpgs depending on speed.

I was made aware of the TSB from posts on this thread ..Went had it done at my dealership last week ...Definitely made difference shifting in heavy stop and go traffic on the interstate..I was shocked that it was no longer doing the "dance" as some have described... Towing the boat Saturday it seemed to know and hold the gear it needed to make it up the incline going over the Mississippi bridge...

I am still interested in the next tune coming out...

Also ,I asked my dealer to show me that they had done the update before I left ..Its like 5 O'clock, people are leaving,my service guy gets in my truck pulls it back in,has mechanic hook techstream back up Brings me in the shop & shows me I am at 0B0400...on the computer screen...... All I have to say is my dealership is 1st class...

I love the idea of skipping the dealership BS and jumping to 04B04 via OVTune.

I second that. I HATE visiting my local Toyota dealership. If OVTune can update our ECU firmware to 04B04 with the 1.05 update, I'm all for it.

Do you guys get the order confirmation email pretty much immediately after placing your order? I'm a little worried that I didn't get my confirmation email even though my credit card got charged. Tactrix openport already shipped today, and I was about to start the process of getting the system ID code mailed to Mat, but I just realized I have no order number to provide.

If it's normal, I'll just wait, no worries. Just want to make sure I'm waiting for a reason and I didn't put the wrong email address or something.

Don't worry. Matt is a stand up guy. He'll get it done. For me, the whole process took about a week.
