You’re right, I chose the wrong words... “preload” is separate from spring length...

I agree though 14” is the way to go as you have more room to preload them before binding.

    Thanks for the tag!

So I had icons w/ 650lb springs and in my opinion rode like crap at lower speeds , but the high speed stuff was fun. Over rocks it was unbearable. Not even a year later I made the switch to king. I will never look back. So much smoother on the street and highway & rides great and soft off-road! Plus to achieve a 3in lift I didn’t even have to adjust much preload (they come with a 14in spring) as for icon I had almost 2in of preload and was barely at a 2in lift. Honestly based off my experience I would not recommend icon unless you are going to be going 50mph+ every single time you hit the trails. If you have anymore questions just hmu or ask me on my Instagram: @carl_trd. I barely saw this right now.
Also, if money is tight, I would save up for Kings, don’t do what I did and rush then have to spend more money replacing it for another brand. Just do it once and done. Oh and the whole adjuster thing is a little gimmick, hardly makes a difference. You will notice something but it’s not worth the extra $300 they charge. I had icons with CDC valve and it did not make a huge difference.

I strongly disagree with this statement. Are you specifically talking about the Icons?

    Fox for the progressive valving.

Out of everyone I’ve ever talked to or read about, there has only been one person who actually understood shocks/valving and liked Icons. Everyone else it’s pretty much brand loyalty and lack of knowledge.

I beat the shit out of my icons so I can definitely say they make a solid shock. I just didn’t like the bumpy ride at lower speeds, but like I said 50mph+ on dirt it was super smooth. I do more trails and lower speed stuff so icons weren’t made for me.

I was referring to the adjusters. Everything else you said was solid.

Oh, I had them on my icons and I didn’t notice much difference. Not saying there was no difference but I just don’t think it’s worth it in my opinion, but others say that they’re worth it, to each their own
