I had the 62 TSB done yesterday to my '16 and it's definitely a world of difference. I just said there was a stumble/hesitation on wide open throttle and a 40-50mph surge. Seems to drive significantly better, and I always used to drive on ECT.

It appears not. I’m going to put a code reader to my vehicle and check it. I have what it looks like before and post them. If you have a code reader you can match it and see if yours matches. Give me a few.

I went to a local dealership to try and get this done. As per the notes on the receipt, they couldn't replicate the WOT stumble, which even my wife catches from the passenger side. They didn't even bother trying to replicate the gear-surfing in cruise. Finally, as a safety net for their negligence, the service rep said that we're not high-altitude so, "corporate would never reimburse them for doing the TSB." When I got them involved, the service manager and the general manager seemed to agree. It didn't seem to matter that I have made 2 trips to the mountains to visit family this year. The service rep even suggested that I have it done during my next vacation to visit family!

So, after that, I called the dealership about an hour away where I bought the truck. They said to bring it in and get it done. I guess that will teach me to be lazy, opting for a 3 mile drive.

I hate that little exclusion they put in there: “high elevation”. It is an automatic opt out for crappy dealers.

Oh, I know! That's why I was so argumentative with them...just to show them the silliness. Am I not supposed to drive to high elevations anymore? Would my friends/family be at risk, coming to visit me in the lowlands after the TSB update? Of course, I know the answers to the questions. When I made a comment, apologizing for muddying the discussion with reason, that is when he suggested having it done during my next vacation! LOL

Which dealer. I go to Pedersen up in Fort Collins and plan to take mine for the update. I moved from OR (500’ elevation) and now at 5,000’ and definitely has a huge lag when nailing it to pass etc on the freeway. Thinking this would apply.

so I had that one done back in 2016 and it took care of the delay but I still get the lag when hitting the throttle hard..taking it in this week and will see what they say.

There is two TSBs out in July this year. TSB 62 and 58. 62 takes care of the Wide Open Throttle (WOT) lay you are complaining about. The 58 takes care of the 40-50 surges.

Complain about both, the problem with 62 is if the dealership won’t do it if you are not in a “high altitude” area.

Edit: well depends on the dealer it seems. Some do and some don’t. I’m in high altitude but my dealership is awesome anyhow.

These are getting ridiculous. Why wouldnt 62 take care of both. Dealing with the dealership is hard enough. Try explaining this to them now

Hard to believe a dealer doesn't realize a vehicle can't be driven to a high altitude. Total bs. They need to flash all of these trucks, period !

Well, it looks like the new cal ID (04B04 for MY 16/17) is the same for both TSBs. You can see it in the PDFs. :notsure:

Had my 18 done this weekend, major difference in shift points, truck feels like it has more power and shifts way better. Just told the tech I had the stumble on WOT and heard there was some new tranny updates.

Based on my work order printout they updated ECU and TCU to latest, truck drives like it should now.

Update for the Canucks: Went to 2nd dealer this morning in Calgary, the tech said he ran my VIN check on TIS Canada and there was no update. I showed him the TSB, he said it didn't apply to my VIN. If there was an update it would show up in his TIS screen (he did show me the TIS screen). I guess we have to wait a few more months.

So my vehicle is in with the dealer right now, just waiting for their techs to try and do the update but just in case they come up with some BS like they couldn't replicate it or the VIN doesn't apply, what can I show them or tell em to convince them to do the update?

Also how will I be able to tell they actually did the update and they are not bs'ing me(besides driving it of course)

    My first post!!

Took my '16 into local Canadian dealership (Saint John Toyota) yesterday with a printed copy of the US 0062-18 TSB. Told them I wanted the ECU re-cal and transmission fluid checked. They verified the throttle delay going from park to drive, and told me there's a Canadian TSB dated for the 25th or 26th of this month that basically says the same thing as the 62-18 US TSB.

Truck feels WAY better now. It's my 4th Tacoma over the years and the laggy throttle plus slow take off (2-3 second delay going from P to D on cold start) was seriously making me reconsider my life choices.

Service Advisor said he had to re-word my issue description to specifically say "Delay between shifting from park to drive" in order to get the TSB performed and covered under warranty - which I was cool with. They did charge me half an hour for the tranny fluid check. Maybe I can fight with Toyota Canada to get a refund on that? Either way, my truck no longer feels like a minivan and I'm very happy!

    Hope this helps!

Took my 2017 in today for the reflash and it feels like a different truck. Better acceleration and smoother running down the road. ALMOST a pleasure to drive now.
