If indeed the fact of running accessories while engine is off and mounting in alternative positions is the case, then I agree, but the way most posts about this "mod" are stated, Little Pecker Syndrome is apparent.

and yet, your posts are the only ones to fixate on this phenomenon. quite telling.

Are you forgetting if someone is running a lot of accessories or winching where they would need that power?

For off road I'd say sealed AGM is far superior. Just because of the steep angles it can get to etc

After one trip you could see where my battery was leaking and spilling .

But I didn't do group 31 . Just running two group 27 North star

That's because the third gen V6 trucks all come with a tow package standard and the 4-cyl doesn't have the option... it's basically a 2.7 vs 3.5 difference instead of a package like it was before.

Either way, the battery only determines (1) amperage delivery and (2) drain time. #1 impacts things like cranking the engine and winching, #2 impacts things like running electronics on top of typical loads for the truck when the engine is off or temporary heavy drains like winching. A larger battery can improve one or both of those things but neither will impact towing and there's no real reason to improve on #1 unless you're in a cold climate.

The V6 3rd Gen did not come with the Tow Package until 2018, it was an Option on 2016 and 2017..

I could have sworn the 2017's I looked at were the same way but it might just have been that every one of them had the tow package too. Good to know.

Winching with the engine off will kill any battery in a VERY short time. Even with the engine running you typically need to keep the rpms up to keep the battery charged.

my compressor instructions also suggested keeping the engine running while inflating.

TO was the package and it was $650 on the 2017, think it was only $600 on the 2016s.

    Unless he's in Canada.
He would be correct as here every V6 even the sr5 came with tow package.
And I think it's only the Sr and sr5 that even have an option for 4cyl. All TRD and limited trim are V6.

So, lets say I wanted to put in a group 27 AGM into my third gen just for that extra reassurance.. it literally would be as easy as changing out the battery tray with one from a 2nd gen with tow package? J bolts and everything line up or would that need to be replaced too?

Does anyone know if this will work? I am looking to put a group 27 in my 3rd gen also.

You can do a 27 if you get the battery tray from a 2nd Gen with tow package

Do you know the part number? Does it have to be from a 2nd Gen with tow package or are they all the same?

The battery tray is a flimsy piece of plastic, people get by with cutting the stock one to allow figment of the larger 27 battery. It’s seriously flimsy, you can bend it with one finger. Can’t see the value in buying another $50 piece of the same shitty plastic.

Has to be from a tow package as that was the version that used the 27F, the other option is to cut the lip off the current tray and let the battery hang over.

Came used with brush guard, winch and bed cover.
Okay, but what about different sizes of AGMs? My 1st Gen can take either 24F or 35. Which should I get?

Read up on and compare the CA's, CCA's, and RC's. If you are living up North where it gets bitter cold, higher CCA's, if not, CA's are the more important values, and if you will running lots of accessories, the best RC values will be handy. Each manufacturer has different stated values based upon their design and testing procedures. Trust me, AGM is boss and each (GRP24F/35) has plenty of zap to start your engine.
