Is it possible to change the oil with a skid plate without removing the skid plate? And to Change the filter?

    I have bamf skids.

You can always cut a hole if you don't wanna remove it.

The dealer didn’t remove my skid plates (I put torque seal on a bolt). They claim to have changed my oil. I don’t think it’s possible without removing the skid plate.

I think they are trying to pull a fast one. But I’m not sure if it’s possible to do.

Go ask them to show you the trick that allows a filter change w/o removing the skid.

    If they can, you learn.

If they can't, ask how they intend to correct the problem.

Don't know without looking at your skid plate. Check your dipstick and see if you have clean oil.

I'd be pissed if I was the mechanic or tech who had to drop a 100lb skidplate in order to do an oil change that only pays 0.3 hours. But not doing your job is not the right way to handle the situation.

Not really, I mean yeah you could cut a hole big enough to fit the tool in but then the skid isn't going to do it's job as well and will tend to get caught on rocks instead of sliding over... Best way to get it is with a jack, with truck on the ground just roll the jack under and get it centered on the skid plate, then jack up the jack until it's supporting the weight of the skid plate, remove bolts, and drop

They loosened the back bolts. Sagged the plate while 2 guys held it and another changed the filter. Oils clean, they offered to redo it in front of me.

I guess my bad. However when I get home I’m going to inspect the filter myself.

Oil filter wrench is approx 3" wide, covering around 10x the surface area of a 1" hole but whose counting. It's more the fact that the hole would have to be on the leading side of the skid right where it would be facing rocks but I could be wrong. I just wouldn't do it myself is all!

Next time let the service adviser know when you pull up. The oil techs only get paid a fixed dollar amount for each truck and it's not fair to do twice the work on yours for free.

It’s a hourly rate at the dealership I bring my truck too. But yeah, if I still have the truck by next oil change I’m gonna watch them do it. However my oils clean on the dip.

Yeah I'm thinking at some point I'll buy a remote oil filter mount and line setup and make it so the filter sits up top of the engine bay with a line going to the original mount. Would make oil changes way easier

All dealerships are an hourly rate, but it is a fixed amount of hours they get paid for. So after they've spent 20 minutes screwing around with your skidplate they aren't getting paid no more.

Just changed the oil in my new Tacoma for the first time. The skid plate bolts by the air dam are hard to see to line up again. It was 95 degrees in my garage so I have decided next oil change in cool weather, I'm going to slot the two front bolt holes so I can leave the bolts in and then tighten them when air dam is back in position.

yeah but the stock OR has two plates that need to be removed anyway so hows it really a big deal? They do OC on all kinds of vehicles, some easier than others. Thats life. Sometimes you go to the 20+ screws out of an Audi under body plastic. Or a Mazda sedan. If they didn't want to do anything extra then they should specify only certain makes and models without modifications. They wouldn't do that though cause it all works out for them in the end. Some cars take 10 mins, some take 40, they average out.
Sounds like a lazy OC job to me, OP.
