Is that a typical DIY service? I thought to have it done properly you have to have it flushed or something like that?

That’s what I’m trying to figure out. I think some people have been able to DIY it with making a OBDII jumper. I’m trying to swap out the shitty stock fluid but it’s a bit more involved than I had anticipated.

Trying to find someone who feels like coming over and holding my hand while I do it. They can also drink my beer as an incentive.

GOOGLE it, YOUTUBE it. Watch and read a few articles and videos and if the info between them is basically the same go with what you have learned.
Having someone who has done this before to help or supervise is always a good too but sometimes we can't find those folks.

I had the dealer do a fluid flush on a diesel ram I bought back in the day. That was at 60k miles. At 84k miles I had to have it rebuilt. The center that rebuilt it said I should have never had it done to begin with unless it was giving me trouble.

I feel ya though. I would rather have Royal Purple or Amzoil or anything in the Taco beside the OEM fluid but I am gonna ride it out. If I were to do it though, meaning, have it done, I would take it to the same place that rebuilt my dodge which is a place on Route 40 up near Edgewood that I would only trust.

If the fluid is red and/or doesn't smell burnt I wouldn't mess with it. Late model transmission are touchy little bastards.
You think you're doing the right thing then next thing you know you're picking up gears, band, and clutches that are places they shouldn't be. (mild exaggeration - or is it?)

I knew there was a Maryland Tacoma tribe out there somewhere. I'm new to the forum and have recently just purchased my first Taco. Never have I had the pleasure of the offroad experience. I want to test the waters so to speak, soon.

Hell yeah. Welcome! What part of MD are you in?

And as @RobP62 pointed out below, we are putting together a trip to Green Ridge on the 19th. It is very light offroading and extremely stock truck friendly. You are more than welcome to join us! Good chance to learn a thing or two.

I put stickers for more horse power!
I did it on my 3rd gen 4runner. Not big deal. Why you want to do that? Have issues when shifting? If not, don’t touch it.
My 2010 taco is fine according to the dealership. Does your taco have a dipstick?
