I sent in my request with receipt and pictures of odometer and installed battery. Advance Auto took my old battery for the core charge of $22. Can't wait for the "we need the battery" crap. If that happens I will not return to that dealer for my next truck.

My battery went out at 25,000 and Toyota replaced it.

I’d tend to agree but I've also built my career on quality improvement in electrical power products and, having experienced one too many situations where customers claim "it just died", or "I don't know what happened"; well, I've adjusted my perspective to have as many of those products as possible to be returned for my personal evaluation and statistics.

That's how I work on continuous improvement across all product families and line items, by noting if cause of failure was man-made (neglect is most often the case), Force Majeure/Act of Nature as second, and actual code/firmware glitch as last. Out of a few thousand units shipped per year and working with the same products for the last 13+ years; I've whittled the replacement rate for actual code glitches down to almost single digits annually. Still actively pursuing zero field failures and replacements...

Dealership said they have to submit the receipt and reason to Toyota Corporate, then they are reimbursed at the dealer level, then cut a check to the end customer. In this case, they fast-tracked my request through their accounting dept and I should be reimbursed by next week.

Still... with a properly functioning charging system; it's an oddity that any lead acid battery should fail within 12 months unless there is something onerous happening upstream of the terminals and some parasitic draw by the truck when not cranked and running. Granted, there can always be manufacturing defects in any production of batteries, but I'd still like to see the trends and number of batteries they are having to replace within the warranty period covered from transfer of ownership to customers.

Man and here I thought my 2012 battery sucked after only lasting me 4 years and 65k miles. I hope my 2017 battery lasts the same. I have a lithium battery jump starter though. Haven't tried it on the truck though wonder if it would even work.

Yeah, I usually get like 4 years out of my battery. I will say that my Tacoma sits in the garage most of the week so that might have something to do with mine failing after 2 years.

Add mine to the list of batteries that lasted about one year. Got it replaced free under warranty. Dealer swore they were good batteries and mine was an anomaly. For some reason his nose grew after that.

The battery in my 2017 died around the 1 year mark. I jumped it off my car and let the dealer replace it.

I have an Odyssey for my 1000cc motorcycle. Installed about six years ago. Best battery I've ever owned. Don't know what's up with the current Toyota battery selection for the 3rd Gen, but the OEM battery in my 1st Gen lasted over a decade.

To my pleasant surprise, I received a check from Cherokee Toyota in Canton, GA. today for the full price of the Gold battery bought at Advance Auto. They never asked for the old battery or nothing, just paid under the emergency warranty repair policy. I really was shocked, thinking they would come up with some excuse not to pay. Spoke to the service manager there who told me many of the batteries are failing before the warranty runs out.

Loaded up all our stuff to head out of state for Christmas. Had my boy and our dog all settled in. Pushed to start...nothin but grinding! And dim interior lights. So frustrating. And of course the dealerships in Southern Nevada are closed on Sundays. Sh**! Had to come out of pocket for a new one at Autozone. $173.

Date on the battery you ask? 12/27/17. 361 days old.
    Miles on the truck? 6,300
Drove off the lot in March.

I know batteries last about two summer seasons in the desert but this is ridiculous.

When I get home from my trip I’m gonna try to get Toyota to reimburse me for some or all of the cost.

Toyota replaced my Tacoma battery at 31K miles. My Wife's Corolla battery (original from the factory) is still going strong after 5.5 years. OEM battery quality seems to be hit or miss.

Replace it at local auto parts store and send the bill to your dealer for emergency warranty replacement. They will pay you 100% of the cost.

My battery just had this issue, went dead at 12K miles, had to have AAA come out, reading said BAD CELL. I bought a new battery from them and had it installed for $135. I took the receipt and BAD CELL readout to my local dealer and the service manager sent me a check within 48 hours. I was prepared to have to fight it on my $40K truck but Toyota came through.

Is it 100% that I won’t need to give them the old battery? I left it with Autozone. Then read the warranty booklet about having to show receipt and old parts. I called Autozone and they agreed to hold the old battery until I get back home. But I hate the idea of having to cart around a box of acid.

Don't know about your dealer, but I just sent a letter, copy of receipt, and picture of new battery installed. Told them the situation in which it went dead in parking lot and had no opportunity to get to a dealer. They paid it within a few weeks.

Original batt replaced last June 3 month into owner ship. The dealer installed a Toyota TruStart, just had to jump start my truck to get the truck going.

My original battery crapped out after 1 year/30K miles. My service advisor said they'd swap it out under warrantee. But it wasn't worth my time to wait until I could get back to the dealer. In the mean time I bought a Napa Extreme wet cell.

I was thinking about bringing in the Toyota battery at my next oil change. Do you think the dealer would still exchange it for me under warrentee if its not in my truck?

Got the same from Advance Auto, but there were several on the rack the same height/width/length. All I know is cranking amps were way higher than OEM.
