Just purchased a "classic" (1995.5 Tacoma)

I just pulled the trigger on a 1995 Tacoma Reg Cab 2.7 4 cyl 4X4 with 160,000 miles. Not sure if it was the right thing to do but it looked soo nice. I mean if you did not know better you would not have known it was that old. Hardly any scratches, no rust. Looked really good. It was very well taken care of IMO. Plus the previous owners had seemingly documented everything that had ever been done to the vehicle. Every oil change, light bulb and spark plug was documented. Hard to find that kind of information.

My questions:
What are the known issues with this vehicle?

I didn't see anything in the documentation about the timing chain? Does it require any maintenance?

Is there anyway to give the vehicle a little more pep (it is SLOW and does not seem to get very good gas mileage either-kind of defeats the purpose of a 4 cyl in my opinion but hey it looked nice)

Any good information on how to add power door locks/remote keyless entry and power windows to this vehicle?

Great documentation is usually lacking. Good for the previous owners.

No scheduled replacement on the timing chain in the four cylinders like the belt on the V6.

Frame rust through?

Performance improvements? Needs a major change such as a super charger,turbo charger, or V6 to see any big changes. Be satisfied or trade.

Better yet, sell it to me.

 

I actually picked up a 95 yesterday myself and was wondering the same basic things, minus the keyless entry portion.

 

Congrats on the purchase. I love my '95.5. If you don't mind, what did you have to give for it?

 

There is nothing to really maintain except the oil and fluids, as for gas mileage check your 02 sensors if one goes out your mpg will drop dramatically, with that truck driving well you should easily get 20 mpg.

 

sorry off topic here but what kind of wheels/tires/lift do you have? My truck looks just like your and im trying to decide if I want to go black rims.

 

So you just purchased my taco. Be good to her, she had been very good to me. At the time of sale, there were no known issues. I sold the truck because i bought a 2010 tundra, and there were to many vehicles in the stable.

I documented the mpg. it got around 20 - 22 on the highway, a little less around town. i belive you could get more if you went with a smaller tire. The 31.10/50's eat up some gas. The o2 sensors have been replaced, along with the mass air flow.

Thanks for the compliment. I tend to keep more things than not, especially with my vehicles. Plus i like to track performance, gas mileage, etc., and see how efficient or inefficient it is running.

I think trdracing5 bought the truck from my neighbor. He wholesales vehicles. I tried selling the truck out right, but got tired of dealing with people coming over the view the truck. So my neighbor made me an offer, and i opted to take the cash now, as opposed to waiting. I'm curious to see what trdracing5 paid for the truck.

 

I knew that the Tacoma was so well kept that it had to belong to a member here!!!!
I really wasn't in the market for a vehicle that "old" but when I looked at its condition I just had to have it. All of the documentation from the previous owners made it that much more attractive. It doesn't seem to have much power-but hey its a 4cyl!
