I wonder what the surface temp is of those vent vanes after the AC has been running for a while? hmmmm

Bumping this old thread b/c my A/C struggled this weekend while stopped in traffic for a bit or idling for a while. It was f'ing hot (98F & high humidity) but its always blown cold in those circumstances. It was nice and cold when going down the road so thanks to some of my local guys offering advice i'm going to ensure the condenser is clean and not clogged up from offroading through some mud earlier this year and then if needs be put some gauges on it to see what my pressure is like. Also going to try and see if the clutch fan is operating normally. Temp gauge never spiked while sitting for a while with A/C on max re-circulation, and I also used my ODB2 scanner with ODB Fusion to monitor temperature and it was holding at normal temp.

Any other tips or things I should look for or check?

It was nice and cold when going down the road.

that usually means not enough air flow from the fan

All of my Toyotas with mechanical fan have been like this and I would raise RPMs while stopped to keep cool

Thank you for mentioning that - my system is doing that right now as well. Only vent blowing cool is the far-left, or driver's side. So that's related to a leak somewhere in the system causing low pressure? Is there a known culprit for leaks in these trucks?

do those store bought A/C rechargers actually work or are they placebos? I've never tried them and wouldnt mind lowering my chill a bit...

if refrigerant pressures are proper it wont make a difference and actually lots of time people overcharge the systems making them worse.

Spent a lot of time reading through this forum, thought I'd just share my recent experience. AC compressor clutch blew, burning smell, squeaky noise, blinking lights and whatnot. Didn't think I could get the clutch off without removing the compressor, so I ordered one of those UAC compressors off of Amazon. Swapped it out, vacuumed, and refilled with R12a (in Canada) refrigerant. AC was only blowing air around 60F, so I thought I undercharged it. Added another can, and it blew even warmer, and the AC compressor started to shut itself on/off consistently. Once I realized I had overcharged the system, I bled it off to 40psi low and 275 psi high. Now it blows around 45F, and nothing's blown up yet.

:annoyed: Charge by weight and sticker label. Then, read the gauge pressures, are they within range according to ambient temps?

I had the same issue too with the driver left vent only blowing “chilly”

What fixed mine was a proper filling of the system (which could only occur after any leaks are fixed)

I would look for leaks first

Thanks - it was a compressor that was on its way out. Finally got the delightful squealing noise to confirm the problem. Had the compressor swapped out, and the system recharged. We had it in NC last week, and it was blowing nice and cold the whole trip.
