Found 1 mile from his vehicle...that's tough. Obviously waiting to hear the details, but I agree with previous sentiments that desert is harsh and unforgiving.

Did the right thing to share his GPS location and tell them when he would be back. Most of the time, people (often me), forget that very important step.

Telling his wife to call law enforcement by Sunday night makes me think it might be a suicide if no foul play was involved.

Not necessarily. I did a bunch of back country trips where I informed one person what my plans where and had a contact time set up and if they didn't hear from me by then, then they should contact law enforcement. This was before those spot messengers. That's actually pretty common practice.

This is a very common practice when exploring alone or even in small groups in the back country. This and telling someone your exact routes.

Really anything is possible. I think it is too soon to speculate.

I just think being a mile from your rental car is a bit odd. Crazy things happen in the desert like being bit by a rattle snake. Either way it’s a sad he died alone in be desert. Hope is wife and young child have a great support system to get them thru this terrible time.

Yes but I think it is bad to speculate. Right now she is keeping to herself to just cope and deal with everything. There are a bunch of people who knew them personally and I know if someone speculated shit and I read it I would be a bit pissed off. Best to just offer support.

I can't say I'd post as much info.. or a thread.. I might would say something in a local group like this.. but I'm not sure I would make a thread about something so personal not knowing the outcome just for the unwanted attention.. I'm not saying anything is wrong with it.. but I wouldn't want others knowing my family business.. some real freaks out there ..
