    Hello,

I bought a 2018 TRD Sport 4x4 in May. Do I need this update or has it already been done since I have a 2018?

    Thanks

This update just came out a little over a week ago so your truck won’t have it.

I’ll pass for now. No issues with my truck at any altitude at any speed or incline.

Most likely the way the computer tells it to operate/save fuel.... transmission is rock solid just quirky factory tune IMO

I took my 2018 TRD OR into the dealership today, and they told me that my Tacoma was built after the update so no update was needed.

My Taco was ordered in May 2018 and received mid July. So it was probably built sometime in late June. It leads me to believe the TSB release date doesnt necessarily mean thats when they started updating new production Tacomas....

I havent had any major issues where I notice a "stall" from WOT, but I do notice it searches for gears, especially on the highway.

OK - I'm pretty sure there are TWO TSBs - one for the transmission shift points and one for the stumble at take off in higher elevations. I got the transmission TSB installed, but the tech assumed when I talked about a stumble on take off that I was still referring to the transmission so they noted that that TSB would take care of the stumble.

The only way you'll know if this is indeed the case is if you identify your ECU (which can easily be done with a $20 Amazon bought OBD2 bluetooth scanner hooked up to your phone - Carista and Veepeak are popular and inexpensive options).

If you don't see the above as your calibration ID then you don't have the latest.

There is only one fix to both problems. They are separate TSBs that have the exact same fix. If you had one you have both...

Thanx for clearing that up. And the OP is correct - this is a MAJOR improvement in performance and driveability.

Good to know, I may look into that.

This past weekend was the first weekend I took the truck to the mountains. While on the highway going 65mph, any time I would hit an incline, I would really have to gas it to maintain speed. The truck would shift down and the RPMs would shoot up. My truck would rev obnoxiously and I got a lot of looks as I passed cars (my exhaust system doesnt help the situation...sounds good around town and off road but annoying on the highway). My passenger in my truck would give me a look each time it happened like "what the heck was that?"

I dont know if this has anything to do with the TSBs or just how the Tacoma transmission is. Really disappointing.
