I could see leaving them on Route 8, maybe the sections close to NA, but anywhere else there's no need.

I think our street light budget was about $24k.

 

My phone was bugging the hell out last night... think it's time to bite the bullet and buy a new one. It's actually been bugging out for some time now. Gets really hot when I'm using it, my text messaging app keeps "crashing", and it's kinda old and beat up. I've reset it a few times, but still does it. It's a Galaxy S5 (yeah, I know, super old model), but it had been working fine up until recently.

Not a fan of paying monthly on my bill like they make you do now, so gonna have to see if I can just buy one from someone/somewhere.

 

I'm with you on not paying for a phone from month-to-month. I have an S7 active right now and don't plan to replace it for quite a while. I don't feel like dropping $700 on a new one.

 

Seriously... what they make you do now is BS. I remember the days that you either got a free phone, or you could get a really good one for a couple hundred bucks, and that was it. Paying monthly for a phone, full price, which is practically full retail value for it??????????? NO THANK YOU.

 

My other problem is AT&T only offers 1 GB or 5 GB of data. I am consistently over 1, but nowhere near 5. I'd love to be able to get 2 or 3 and save a few bucks, but I can't.

 

Yeah, the data thing is another crock of you know what in my opinion... First they had unlimited, then they took it away, then they brought it back... WTF! The cell phone thing has become a rip off.

 

Are you using the standard android messages app? Mine would crash literally any time I would send a text and then it would end of sending the text 3/4 times. Started about 2 months ago and last month I downloaded Textra and have been using that as my default texting app

 

Hmmm that hailing port is a village in my town. Probably kept less than a mile from my mooring.

I've used the standard one, and a couple different Google ones. I think the issues I'm having is because the phone is so old that it doesn't have as much RAM as the new ones do, and the apps are getting bigger and bigger, so the phone doesn't run as good as it used to. Even the messaging apps.

 

Ah, gotcha. Yeah IDK what is going on with the default messages app, I have a Pixel and it would crash constantly. Then my wife's started doing the same thing and she has a Pixel 2 that came out not even a year ago. It was annoying as hell though, but I haven't had any issues with Textra since switching to it.

 

Ice in the winter and pot-holes the rest of the year. Rt.3 in Hooksett still has moguls up near HK Powersports

There are companies like this https://www.wingalpha.com/ that pay you back for data you don't use. There are others like the company I just linked so do some research but I've heard good things. I'm still on Verizon, so I can't personally attest.

 

Hmm... might have to give that one a try then, and see what happens.

 

I messed up a little too...I had 6 GB at one point, then I noticed they had 5 GB for what appeared to be about $10 less because there was an autopay discount. I figured why not, I usually don't even use 2 GB. Turns out the autopay discount was in the price already even though it didn't read that way. So now I have 1 GB less and the bill is actually a few pennies higher, tried a few times to get them to let me switch back and gave up.

Can't switch carriers, either. The small carriers don't do a good job in this area at all, and I wouldn't have service at work or in the really rural areas (like my mom's) with Verizon. For some reason AT&T is the only one that made an effort to cover rural Western MA, and I don't think it was even them--I think most of that coverage dates back to the Cingular days before AT&T bought them.

 

Shiet... yeah, sounds like you're "stuck" with AT&T because of the coverage thing.

 

The only thing that sounds better is a triple deuce, in my opinion. But on a boat, I guess you'll have to settle for twin motors with 4 barrels each. BWAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

Mine doesn't have one. Somebody tried to float the idea at town meeting a few years ago and got shot down pretty handily. Spreading out the budget to start a police force over a town of 1200 people wasn't very popular.

 

No kidding. The town claims NECs tax status doesn't cover enough of the municipal costs.

I'm thinking about Straight Talk. I pay an ungodly amount of money for my phone and tablet.

 

@morri89 , is it called Textra SMS?? A couple different ones came up when I searched for it.

 

Unfortunately, coverage with them looks spotty around here. I put in addresses of a few of our buildings at work, my own house, my mom's, some random ones on my drive back and forth to work, and it was about 50/50. That's what I find whenever I check out another carrier.

 

Unfortunately there is one thing that really can't be debated. Verizon does, hands down, have the best network just like their commercials say. Especially when I go north. I hear of people saying that they all share the same towers but that is just not true because we can be snowmobiling in some crazy places in Maine and NH and people without Verizon are constantly asking if they can use my phone. That's the only thing keeping me from dropping them, but I hate them!

 

LOL! I have Verizon, and have to agree with you on the coverage thing. Can't really complain about them though... haven't really had any issues, and the few that I've had they've been pretty good about.

But yeah, coverage wise I think they are the best.
