    Hello everyone,

I am going to make a marketplace thread shortly but thought I would mention it first here to give Arkansas preference.

I am selling 4 stock TRD Off Road wheels. Came off my Tacoma after 12,000 miles. I am asking $500 OBO. Shoot me a PM or respond. I am located in the Fayetteville area. I'll send more photos of the wheels.

    Thanks

Whichever is easiest to route, its one of the simplest mods you can do.

Ordered an add a leaf set, hopefully they will be here by the weekend so I can get them installed, opted to go that route instead of the bags. Also about to pull trigger on either ST Maxxs or STT Pros, can NOT decide. Maxxs probably a better tread for my driving but those Pros look sweet. The Pros have gotten great on and off road reviews, minor negatives on the Pros for wet traction, and I'm agonizing over this decision. I hate buying tires. Friday August 17th we'll be on the road to CO....

Pete, you are racking up some serious miles!

    Yeah.
Thanks, I'll probably just route it to the inside of the bed cubby, not a lot of room in gas cap area.

I've considered an add-a-leaf, but I run all winter with nothing on the truck. The other 3 seasons my load varies a bit. Tires, ugh, I hate buying them as well. I had a set of Cooper ATP's in the past and wasn't impressed. I agree that the Maxx is probably more reasonable choice, but they don't even list it on their site (discontinued?) and I don't see a similar tread pattern on other models. The Pros look awesome but seem like they would be loud on the pavement. Between the 2, if not much difference in price and tread warranty, I'd lean toward the Pro.

I was thinking the same thing about @PinnaclePete's oil change, seems like he just did one. I still haven't broken 4K miles on my truck.

@MatthewMay1 Samsung manufactures their own chips, and I am sure other "brands" even use their chips in their SSD's. Personally, I like their phones and am fine with their memory chips, but I had a Blu-Ray player from them that was awful and I don't like their TV user interfaces. But their SSD drives should be fine, no user interface.

They is a negligible difference on price between the two.

    http://us.coopertire.com/tires/discoverer-s-t-maxx.aspx

Pros will be louder, sure, but I have read pages and pages of reviews on both and only negative I can find is wet traction issues and premature wearing on heavier trucks with the Pros. Most say the Pros are not as loud as even the K02, they wear and drive more like an AT than a MT, and do awesome in almost all off road media, slightly goosey in gravel That said, my Taco is still my DD and they will see primarily highway miles. E rated tires with an AAL and my Tacoma may ride like a stagecoach, but that armortek on the sidewalls and the silicone compound in the rubber is industry leading. The Maxx unbiased and tested reviews had nothing bad to say, and it excelled in every media with some deficiency in mud, which is to be expected with an AT. Better to have it and not need it, than need it and not have it? Ugh. I maybe flipping a quarter today, seriously. Call it in the air...

Also changed my diff fluids and transfer case fluid with Mobil 1 Synthetic this past weekend. I expected my front to look like chocolate milk, but was surprised to see it had held up really well.

@TenBeers I routed mine behind the driver side tail light housing. If you take the housing out, you'll see there's a hole in the plastic that is big enough for the hose to go through but not big enough for a the breather. All you need is a zip tie mount or two.

    upload_2018-8-1_8-39-0.jpg

As a side note, I had less than 10,000 miles on mine when I did this, and there was a definite pressure exchange when I loosened the OEM pop-off valve on the top of the rear diff.

Y'all also were talking about hard drives earlier. One of the few things I've learned from working at a software company is that spinning hard drives are the same either way, but solid state drives (SSDs) wear out faster as files are written to them. You can read them almost infinitely, but writing-deleting-writing-deleting will kill them sooner. This is evident in how many servers run spinning drives over the SSDs*

*at this current time - caveat hahaha!

Mine sounded like a 2-liter coke opening when I loosened the valve fitting.

Thats a good looking mod there, Crashman

    Yeah.
@CRASHMAN50 That does look good! Dang, I ordered a Toyota breather, but I like what you used better. I may have to pop by AutoZone and check out options like yours. I have to take the tail lights out to do the bed braces anyway, so I can just do both at the same time.

Somewhat agree on the SSD write thing, but they have improved to the point that they will likely outlast spinning drives even in enterprise applications (mechanical drives will likely run into other issues). Love the speed of SSD's. I've had them as main drives in both work and home computers for quite some time and never had an issue. My first work laptop that had one lasted 4 years before I got a refresh, and that's a lot of read/write cycles on older SSD technology. I used PCIe NVMe drives in my last 2 builds (one last weekend for my daughter), takes longer to POST than to boot Win10.

@TerraNerva let us know how the coin toss works out. On diff fluids, I just use the blue bottle of dino from Walmart. I read somewhere that Dana actually recommends regular dino. I always use synthetic in the engine (Castrol has been my oil of choice for 35 years), but IMHO, gearboxes do fine on regular dino unless you are doing super crazy stuff. Like staring into the abyss, maybe. My front diff and TC has always looked super clean when changed.

I went the route I did just to keep the air free flowing. I think those little breathers are technically breathers for go-kart engine blocks? Something like that. They're like $11 each. You could raise that pop-off valve at the end of a line, but after long enough, it'd still build up a vacuum. It would just take longer since it'd have the line to build up pressure in too. I did the same thing to the front diff breather under the hood, but it didn't have much pressure built up because it comes from the factory with some line. But it has a real breather now, so that's future proofed.

I used a lawn mower fuel filter from NAPA on front in engine compartment and a VW bug fuel filter on the rear. Both were less than 5 bucks.

There are arguments both ways about replacing pressure valves with open 2 way fuel filters. My logic is like yours, it can inhale and exhale all it wants if it is higher than my engine air intake. They're made to protect axle seals from sudden positive and negative pressures primarily, secondly to keep water out of the fluids. The filter just keeps dust out of the diffs.
