Just dropped my 16 offroad off at the dealer here in Cincinnati, service manager i talked to on the phone said i would have to leave it overnight tonight and see if the tech can recreate the problem tomorrow morning , the guy that took my info and truck in tonight knew exactly what i was talking about when i explained the symptoms, hopefully they do the update tomorrow and done give me any problems.

Is your 16 still under warranty? Mine no longer is and I'm curious if I'd be paying for the TSB. They can't really refuse if I have to pay for it, can they?

So im confused. From what i gather the tsb's mentioned fix 2 issues one being a stutter when taking off from a stop and another fixing a stutter from 3rd to 4th? Do either of the mentioned tsb fix the issue of not being able to stay in 5th or 6th on the interstate and the constant searching of gears at any speed above 70 mph?

The tsb 0062-18 (eg1181) fixes the issues that people experience in different ways because of driving style. Some people experience the stumble at take off, others it's hunting for gears on interstate or hills, some it's a dead spot in the pedal when coming to a red light and it turns green you hit the gas and no real response. Sometimes it can feel unpredictable in turns because it will either upshift or downshift on you when not expected.
I have felt it in all of the gear changes or when releasing and hitting the gas, but not all the time. The pedal/gear/rpm was unpredictable feeling.
This update makes it feel right.
And it is the lasted update for theses issues so it's the only one you will get at the dealer.

This is what I got from one of my dealers.

"Dealerships installing the latest TS-B without following the diagnostic procedure is not following the guidelines set out by Toyota nor by the language of the T-SB itself. The language of the T-SB instructs to confirm the condition exists and follow a set of steps to diagnose the concern to see whether or not the T-SB applies. It is warranty fraud to apply a repair to a vehicle without proper verification and supporting documentation that the repair is the correct solution to the problem. We would need to diagnose your vehicle and then assess if the T-SB is the applicable solution to your problem."

I just told the dealer what I was experiencing. They logged it and corrected it via tsb update I recommended without replicating the problem. I ordered them not to try to replicate it because it would be abusive to my property and potentially dangerous.
Next they logged the problem then fixed it with the update. No problem, they have all their paperwork correct with complaint logged. They do not need to replicate or confirm, especially when argued it could be dangerous.

That is the BS from Toyota down the hill to the dealers since they (Toyota) doesn't want to pay for computer work.
I would ask Toyota how come the same truck built at the same location within a week, one needs the update and the other does not??? What the hell is going on that assembly line that trucks are different?
I am all for Made in the USA but at this point I am convinced that other countries can build stuff better than our spoiled union workers.
Long time ago, Japan was right stating that American workers are lazy and stupid...proof is in the tacos.
All would take is a few bad accidents on the freeway because the truck stumbled and not matched the speed on the next lane, a few good lawyers and watch then how Toyota will issues a recall for ALL tacos regarding the engine-trani problems. Remember the Prius gas pedal?
I would love the scenario where Toyota will be forced to update the settings for ALL tacos or be fined a lot of $$$ and have the delaer or Toyota Corp contact me for a schedule to do the update and then I would play the same game
    - can not comply, I am at low altitude..
    - I don't think I need it, I can not duplicate the problem
    - truck is running fine, just a taco characteristic
    - don't need the update, its only low on trani and diff fluids.

I find this interesting. Your saying you essentially asked them to flash the ECU without test driving it since you know they are going to essentially beat the crap outta the truck on the test drive while trying to replicate the issue(s)?? I feel the same way and know they will run it hard in order to replicate. On my last Tacoma I had it in for some similar issues and when I got it back the average MPG displayed was 7.9 down from 20.1 when I dropped it off. I can't imagine how they drove it when they had it.
Anyone else successfully done something along these lines?

Fwiw my truck does a very light stumble sometimes if I accelerate moderately hard from a stop and it hunts/searches for gears badly at light throttle at various speeds ranging from 45MPH-75MPH.

I'm going to tell the techs the same when I drop mine off next week. I'm really not ok with one of them driving around town flooring it trying to replicate this.
