Bad Morning

*Edit day after- no damage to BMW. I am repairing Taco (no expense to me) then aftermarket bumper... **

Thanks to all for the helpful replies.. even the 'MAN UP' ones, I needed a good laugh

So... Came in to work this morning and had a low speed collision with a coworker backing out of a space. He has no damage to his BMW, minor paint marks that can be buffed out and will be payed out of pocket by me. The Taco's plastic bumper... did not hold up so well.


What would your repair advice be at first glance? Can this be popped back out and repaired or should I re order a new bumper... or something else. I'm also thinking of taking this as an opportunity to change the orange flares to black...

Looks like it could be popped out, but I'd imagine you'd still see some damage, a good body guy could probably make it look like new again. Probably cheaper to buy a new one and have it painted though.

 

sucks. it'll never look right popped out.

find an aftermarket bumper you like and have your body shop install it. use the quote for replacing all factory parts to go towards the aftermarket bumper.

Lines might not be perfect but I've definitely popped plastic dents out before and been alright with it. Depends what you're looking for. Do you want it perfectly clean? Or hell, make a claim and use that money on a nice new Pelfreybilt!

 

Yeah, could be a good opportunity for an aftermarket bumper if you ever wanted to go that route. I don’t think trying to have it popped out would be worth it.

I guess beemers don’t have rear cross traffic alerts huh.

 

pop it out. chop the bottom half off and add a Pelfreybilt or CBI bumper

 

Would a good bull guard have prevented this damage to the Taco?

Good time to armor up. Use the replacement bumper money and get some metal on there

 

I did the similar damage to my bumper and it popped back out with solid pressure from behind. MY fender flare is creased pretty bad and the front clip point is 1/2 gone. Still havent decided what I'm going to do to fix that.

Truth... what people call a “bull bar” is a damage amplifier...

Maybe see if anyone has replaced/removed their bumper and would like to sell to you. First see what it looks like popped out (might not be too bad). These bumpers are super thin anyways.

Plus, now it looks rugged and offroad tested.

 

Bull bars and brush guards multiply damage. They crush and damage everything behind and send force through to the mounting points. Only for looks.

I was about to ask the same. This doesn't seem quite right.

 

BMW man is a friend and lead of the company so I was originally pretty terrified of what his damage could be. I offered right away I guess I was thinking I should have been able to stop since I was rolling into a spot.

 

But he backed out in front of you? Pssshhhhhhh......get his insurance info lol

 

All I see is potential frame damage to impacts that used to only result in front end damage.

Now maybe the trade off is worth it if you are afraid of deer being deflected up into the windshield on a stock bumper.

 

I'll be mulling it over for a while but at least for the drive home and around for a few day's I'll try and pop it back out. I'm just hoping its not a bunch of money. It's kind of terrible timing for me. I just switched insurance policies on Friday and am in the very end stretch of saving for a house.. trying to save as much money as possible and now this lol. But that is how it goes I guess.
