Just threw on some all new SCS F5 16x8 4.5 BS paired with 265/75 16 wildpeaks. I don't know too much about tire balancing but the amount of weights used seems excessive. 3 out 4 wheels looks like this, weights covering half the wheel. They also had 2 or 3 weights on the opposite side. Would this be an inexperienced tech at discount tire or a defective rim and tire? I'm getting no vibrations so I guess that's a good thing :notsure:

Wow. I can't answer your question, but that's easily 3x as many as I have in my rims (different rims, but still).

I work in the tire industry... that is too many weights... usually at3w's balance pretty well. Not sure, but maybe the wheels aren't true? Or a new tire buster going ham on the weights?

I did hear lots of good things about the at3w balancing well that's why I went with that tire. With your knowledge in the industry and what I have been researching online. Should the tech have dismounted the tire and positioned it to the opposite side to achieve balance? I did go early morning and my truck was put on the lift as soon as I paid so it wasn't too busy. Maybe the guy didn't have his coffee yet

My Ray 10s with E range Nitto Ridge Grapplers don't have nearly that amount of weight and are butter smooth.

Were there any painted dots on the tires. Those are light spot indicators put on at the factory. Those need to align with the valve stem.

Seems excessive. Maybe get a second opinion somewhere else?

Yeah, usually if there is an issue with it wanting too much weight. Most people will dismount the tire and reposition it. The tire doesn't seem to be defective if your not feeling any vibrations. If your worried just have them rebalance it again. But make sure you ask them to remove the weights and do it. Most people will just re-balance with the same weights and stack over it. (Lazy)

I would agree. Check the bead too. It should be even all the way around the edge of the wheel on the inside and out.

No painted dots on the tires when I purchased them. Gonna check the bead tomorrow when there's light outside. At this point I might just hold off on a second opinion for now since I have no problems with it. It just looks absurd for the time being.

Too many weights. My SL weight rated same tire had 5 oz total on 1 wheel and less on the other 3 Wheels.

What do y'all do with your stock tires/rims when you upgrade? Do tire places usually credit you for them?

I live in the city and have no garage to store them, and am not going to pay for storage. Thoughts?

Luckily you can keep them in the bed of the truck until you sell them. Might want to secure them somehow though. Of course, depending on your insurance deductible you want to leave it parked somewhere with a sign saying "please do not steal these tires" :anonymous:

I sold my Sport wheels and tires, with 2k miles on them, mounted & balanced, no tpms, on here for $600. I got lucky. I've seen them for less.

I would pay $200 for those steel wheels with tpms from the guy on here that just took them off. Too bad he is not closer to me or I would offer.

Not good. I suppose if the place that mounted them was sloppy, and the liquid soap they used left residue on the wheels it could cause the adhesive to fail prematurely. Or if they used a dirty rag (grease) to wipe them off.

You should be able to take them back and have them add new ones for free. I can't imagine them not wanting to make it right.

Yes going for free re-balancing tomorrow. Will make them wipe off the wheel with alcohol before applying the weights.
