ECGS bushing replacement and write up to follow

Someone who has done this before can do it about an hour depending on if all of the nuts and bolt break loose. With someone who is doing this for the first time with a couple of rusty bolts, it can taking upwards of 2-3 hours. There are a couple of YouTube videos on how to do it. Even if a mechanic, home grown or professional, has not done it before, show them a couple of YouTube videos on it the help them get a better idea on how to do it. Make sure you get a new axle seal before you do it and you might want to have them clean up the edges of the axle seal hole with some heavy grade sandpaper .....it might be sharp from surface rust, before the new seal goes back in. I made that mistake and I ripped a brand new axle seal putting it in with cleaning it and needed to get another one.

 

What is an axle seal? New to all of this. Havent seen this brought up yet

 

Took my mechanic 2.5 hours to do. This was including a new axle seal as well.

 

the axel seal is a rubber coated metal seal the butts up against the bushing that keeps the front differential fluid from coming out. Just go to your local toyota dealership and pick one up or have them order you one. They are fairly cheap. You will take out the old one, then take out the needle bearing, then out in the new bushing, then new axle seal, then top off the front differential fluid.

 

Have you ordered the bushing from ECGS yet? If not, they have the seal too. However, normally, the seal does not need to be replaced. It wouldn't hurt to have one on hand though. There's a few you tube videos that go over the process.

 

Ordering when I order the lift. The trucks new so I guess the seal is ok?

 

What if the trucks new? Shouldn't need a new seal?

 

A new seal is handy to have and cheap just in case u damage the old seal while pulling out the bearing.

 

I swapped my needle bearing out at about 100K for the ECGS bushing. did not replace the seal, it looked fine, felt fine. developed a slow drip in this area. Swapped seal next weekend. no more drip. Then sold truck

Would I know for sure if I have vibes, I have on 05 AC that I just buy Billies on @ .85. You could say I’m a bit paranoid about getting the vibrations. I’m uncertain if it could be my roads, tires, engine reving, but whatever sensation I’m getting is very subtle. Also, switching to 4h doesn’t always change anything. If I had vibes, would it be obvious?

Curious...lifting my new-to-me 2nd Gen and wondering if anyone has tried to remove the OEM needle bearing with a blind bearing puller? Always itching to use tools I have but don't often use. Thanks!

 

I have the puller, a driver kit for the bearing, and an extra seal. Will send first two for shipping, preferably to someone who would like to purchase the seal. Didn't use it at install as my seal seemed fine. $15 seal + shipping. Tools free

Just bought the full potatoes from @ECGS. Install tool, removal tool, bushing, and axle seal.

Hoping to get this done a few weekends from now, tools will likely go up for sale then.
