I have a question for y’all seasoned oba dudes. I’ve got an arb dual and plan on running it for airing up tires mainly and was planning on mounting it in the engine bay vertical next to the radiator with the slee mount. Running a steel braided line to the rear bumper. Would this be any real disadvantage to the compressor/lines or use as opposed to say an expedition cubby mount?

Yea no issue, plenty of airflow with the engine running.

I think my very first air compressor was behind the seats. After a few trips I realized how hot it got back there, especially with the seats in their normal position. So I moved it to the bed shortly after. Would it have been a problem down the road? I don't know. I see some people still do it, but for my peace of mind, it wasn't good enough for me.

Appreciate the input. Mines going behind the seat or on a slee bracket. Valid points for each argument, which make the decision that much harder lol :annoyed:

Yeah airing it out while using it is a good idea just to be on the safe side. My lazy ass doesn't want to worry about that haha. I have quick couplers on both bumpers so I never even see my air compressor

Looks good. idk if you've done this already, but I'd cover up those holes because a lot of mud and dirt gets kicked up there (assuming you've removed your mud flaps). When I used to store mine in that location, my air compressor eventually seized up from all the gunk.

I ended up reversing the power and ground wires and it kickstarted it backward, and then I put the wires back and it worked perfectly fine again after

Yup! I just used tape to cover up the wholes lol I also made a lid for the box so nothing falls in.

I know this is a old thread, not sure if active. Heres my set up so far, need some input. Got the dual ARB compressor mounted, that’s it lol. Now I have a Viair 1 gallon tank I’m gonna mount, since it has four ports I can mount a safety valve and drain. Now my idea is to put a 90* from the compressor to the tank. Use a T fitting out the other side to my two lines for my quick connects. My question is, 1. do I need a pressure gauge hook up since I know the arb shuts off at 100psi, the tank is rated for 150psi? 2. Is it best to use a over rated 175psi blow off or a under 145psi safety valves? 3. Do I need a pressure switch since the arb has one built in, and I don’t plan on leaving the tank full when not in use. 4. Will I need a air dryer in-line to help? 5. Do I need to put a check valve in line to the tank? If someone could give me some input I’d be thankful.

Water filters are never a bad idea, even for tires since moisture corrodes tpms sensors and changes volume much more than air with changes in temperature. You want the relief valve pressure to be above the switch pressure and below the tank max so 145 psi is fine. Only need the one pressure switch but you can swap it for a different pressure as long as it's below the relief pressure. You should use flexible SS braided hose between the tank and compressor rather than a hard pipe connector(for the first 18" anyway), as it needs to absorb both heat and vibration. Most compressors will bleed back pressure so yes on the check valve too and screw it into the tank after the SS line. The tank drain should be at the lowest point. Use rubber isolators when you bolt up the compressor.

I have a safety blow off in case the tank gets hot and the air expands building pressure since I have the tank in the bed with a cap. Its a 150psi blow off.

For the dryer....Apparently you need so many feet of line for the air to cool prior to it being able to have it separated. SO I took mine off and constantly drain the tank and run the compressor with the tank open to drain the lines as I only have 2-3 ft of line from the compressor to the tank. Additionally, I have a cutoff so I don't have to fill the tank completely or have the tank filled all the time. I usually just open the lines and fill the tank near the end of a trail so I can fill up tires. Otherwise I just want instant pressure to run my lockers.

I agree with the earlier comments, in addition:

Item#1 - a pressure gauge is a good idea just to make sure the system is working properly.
I mounted my gauge in the cab

Item#3 - no need for redundant pressure switches

Item#4 - I didn't have an air dryer, and never had a problem with moisture,
but then again, I live in California (low humidity).

If you are using this system to also run an air-locker, then you'll need a pressure regulator
(set to about 80 psi) for the air line running to the locker.

When done, be sure to test all the connections for leaks, with soapy water.
A little leaking is OK since the system will only be pressurized while airing up tires
(or while on the trail if you are also running a locker).

Thanks for the response, yeah being from Louisiana and about 90-100 humidity on a daily I might need to look into it. But like I said I won’t be leaving the system pressured up only when needed.
