Just traded my '17 that I had the 2nd gen step on. I didn't really like it because if I used the step to get into the cab I had to haunch over and it felt awkward. Getting in from the ground was no problem but the step always hit my calf. So, on the '18 I am looking to get a slider that stays tight to the cab and is mainly to offer protection from car doors. Dont do any serious off-roading. Just fire trails and across fields. Would like a budget friendly bolt-on. Suggestions?

    Thanks in advance!

Nah. Killed it due to cost and low interest.

Do sliders also make a good step? Some pictures I see it looks like they are so close to the frame that it isnt much of a step.

I know thats not the intended purpose but it is nice.

Eh they are ok for steps but to be honest I've never had running running boards on a truck and thought "man these are great steps!" Usually they just get in my way.

That said, I have RCI sliders, 5 degree with fill plate, and they rarely hit my calf and my wife likes them as a step. Fwiw I am short, about 5'6" so I'd think they should be no problem for taller people but ymmv.

Edit: actually, I take back my first statement, the power steps on my brothers f350 are really nice, but practically required for how high the truck is.

Honestly, buy local and save. Finding a reputable shop closer to you will save you serious coin on freight. CBI would have been $180 to ship to the east coast whereas the Mobtown sliders I ordered will just be $10 in gas to get there.

If you were building a trail rig then, by all means, quality comes first. In this case, so long as you choose a company with experience, you'll probably be fine.

You'll find a more friendly option if you look into weld-on options. Check out 4X Innovations. Mine were less than $300 shipped.

Shrockworks steps/rocker guards here. Enough stand-off from the body to keep it off rocks, plenty strong (they've been tested) and will double as a step if needed.

my brother has a set of RSG sliders on his T4R.

He was T-Boned last month and the sliders actually saved his truck.

Not only do RSG sliders look good, but they are strong as hell..

I'll just leave this here for anyone researching sliders. Mobtown weld on. These things take a beating with no issues and their bolt on would do just as well. This isn't even the hardest hit from that trip.

OP does not appear to want a true slider, more like something with the look that just bolts on to the body.

To be honest OP, doesnt sound like you want a slider/step at all.... It will still rub your leg when getting in (if not using it).

The tighter to the body, the more of a chance of it being useless vs. other car doors. Even full out sliders cant protect against some doors.

Based on what you posted, Id keep it stepless for a cleaner look (since you have no need for a step or actual off road protection).

    Work in progress...
I got these no name steps off pf Amazon for 160ish. Had to do a nip tuck on the brackets to get them tight up under the truck. My wife loves them.
