but what about the first year of being built in a new plant? do you think the 2011 tacomas will have any issues?

 

I would wait just like anything else until they get a majority of the bugs worked out...new design= new problems(large or small)

my dad told me this a long time ago, but times have changed.

my dad bought a 1st gen Titan and has had ZERO problems.

some long term problems may arise (like tranny problems with tundra, or rust with tacomas), but i don't think you should worry too much about toyotas

 

?? usually about every 5 years or so comes the "redesign".... i may be wrong, but if not 2010 is the 5 year mark...i dont see a new plant creating any problems cause you would think the company would be watching it closely to make sure everything is run smoothly until it gets into a rythym...

Personally, I would be worried if I had a truck built at the NUMMI plant after the workers there received their lay-off notices. Not sure that assembly quality would be a priority with them and more than a few missing or loose nuts and bolts may have occured. As for the new plant in Texas, some time will be needed to 'shake down' the process.

And OT: The 2011 Tundra will get the Magnetic Gray color as a means of consolidating paint on the line in San Antonio... They're killing off the Slate color for tundys.

 

It's interesting you say that. When I bought my California produced 2010 this past Oct it had a metal on metal rattle behind the front seat. My thoughts were the AC door on the drivers side. It turned out to be a loose 12mm bolt of the same variety used to attach the jump seat. It was under the storage bin on the floor pan and sounded like a loose pinball on bumps and turns. It also required the transmission TSB directly from the factory. Other than that it has been a good truck and I would buy another. I hope my fellow Texans are more attentive to detail.

 

Good question on the new plant. Who knows? Might want to wait a while and let someone else be the guinea pig.
Then again you don't want to buy the last 2010s out of the closing plant?

 

I had many problems with my '04 titan - sold that POS right after 60k cause of all the problems

My $0.02 and why most 2010 guys on here seem to have the most issues right off the lot is that the 2010 Tacomas being the last at that plant where people knew they were losing their jobs - so avoid late build 2010s - worse than the '09s and the early build 2011s will have some bugs as well from lack of experience. I personally would avoid..and wait for 2012 or get a solid 07-09

 

well i bought a 94 land rover discovery, that was the first year they were made.
it was great until i got 100,000 miles on it. then it just fell apart, and cost a damn
fortune to fix. i had to put a new gear box an fuel injection system in before
100,000. that is just plain crap.
they are great driving trucks, but i will never own one again.
every time something would happen, even if it was a bad hose,
you could count on being without a car for 4 to 5 days.
you had to order everything over the net.

the toyota is not new for 2011 though.

 

History shows that vehicles with problems on a large scale are frequently with the first year of a new model (or a significant redesign of an existing model). But this is the exception and not the rule, especially with modern vehicles. Look at the transmission and leaf spring TSBs for Tacos, they are not for the 2005 Taco (1st year of the 2nd gens), they are for the 2009 and 2010's for Pete's sake, what the f?

 

what did you expect buying a land rover??? i wouldn't touch one with a 10' pole...

 

every second gen has needed the spring TSB,Most Americans dont USE trucks,a small segment of customers would notice decreased load cap. in a short time and was cheaper to go this route not taking into account websites like these that bill it as "A free lift" or"there given stuff away go get it".As for the Tranny TSB I have a manual and it shifts great.

 

My 2010 was built in Feb at the NUMMI plant, and it's rock solid. (I had the same concerns, but no problems so far...)

 

hmm well i didnt know this plant is where the tundra is built too. the tundra seems to be pretty solid, havent heard of many problems with it.

 

Well you could find a 5 with 4.56's (or change them yourself) and a corrected frame - done by Toyota for free (IIRC).
