Yea but CA makes it worse by letting too much water out of state reservoirs. Every year we’ve gotten a lot of rain they think, “oh boy we need to empty these reservoirs so they don’t overfill” Only to be short on water 6 months later and billing citizens for excessive water use. It’s a never ending circle of politics and “should of, could of’s“

But that’s politics and not allowed so I digress.

On a lighter note. Blakebeats are on point when soldering a 30 wire connector under a truck

I was planning on taking the fam out on some trails this weekend near Forest Hill or Pollock Pines or anywhere near those places. Does anyone know of some good uncrowded trails where it is legal to go offroad? I'm not looking for pin stripes or rock crawling, just some fun little fire trails to go explore, let the kids and dogs run around, etc..

But probable pinstripes unless you've been doing some house cleaning.

Yew! Arden Mall... That place is too raw for me. You get dinged up pretty good there.

Yeah, I go riding up there quite a bit but I haven't really seen any designated truck OHV areas. I don't want to play on the same turf as dirt bikes either. Never been to Eagles Lake, I might check that out.

Lol we are busy. I'm currently on the ranch fire from the mendo complex. Weve been to 4 fires in 10 days (3 were in Santa Clara before this assignment and we were initial attack on the marsh where we lost a few structures) I've been on for 12, one of the guys is on 43 straight. It's been busy this season and there's not really an end in sight. The crazy thing is we are so stripped on resources we can't keep up with some of these fires, just evacuated ahead and are controlling flanks. We don't have enough personnel to make solid stands on every fire.

This photo is from 5 days ago when the ranch blew up and they pulled our strike off the line because of the activity making runs at crews and spotting and slopping over lines.

Yea they have some decent fire roads and trails. It’s more of a place to just be in the woods. Careful venturing. People like to go back and shoot erroneously in random directions. I’ve left cause someone randomly setup a shooting lane right across mine, so we made and X and he was all “this is good, right?” Said yea, uh, not really and left. Shit you not.

It doesn’t sound like such a crisis unless you work the numbers. Right?

You are both on the right track. The drought that lasted several years made it so grass didn't grow, brush dried out and died, and tons of trees either died or were weakened allowing the beetles to run absolutely rampant. The last few years with rain haven't necessarily caused a huge boost in brush growth however it has dramatically increased the amount of grass and has caused tight roads in drainages which retain water to be overgrown with ivy, brush, weeds ect making access with 20 ton, 14ft long 12 ft high 10ft wide engines difficult. And all the dead tress falling all over the roads every fire dont help, weve already had one firefighter on the ferguson die from a tree. With all the rain it doesn't change the fact that all the trees and brush died, it's still there and just adds to the dead fuel load which the grass has completely enveloped. So a fire starts in the grass, wind and terrain take it to the heavy dead fuels and then it rips. Most starts are from powerlines, chains, bad catalytic converters, lawn mowers, welding in gass:crazy:, vehicle fires and structure fires with the occasional arson. California cigarettes have some voodoo setup so they actually don't continue to burn unless you're smoking them (hence why they pretty consistently burn out if they sit) but if the relative humidity is 10% and wind of over 15 mph there is the chance that it will retain ember.
Right now the consistent heat, low humidity, and wind are carrying these fire into heavily intermixed interface which is yes, the boonies where people live among the plants and they're hard to get to let alone find a water source to adequately battle dragons or have a defensible space to make it not suicidal for us. Right now a huge issue is finding operators to drive and command engine resources. We are stripped and guys are working 20, 30, 40, 50+ days with maybe a day or two off in between sets and fetting punched out again. Additionally with all these fires happening almost at the same time, we don't have the personell to squash it and have to go defensive using aircraft to slow it down so we can catch up or fight in the flats and grass.
