How many of you have drilled and tapped a toyota ifs box for hydro assist? I have read/watched some stuff and it seems pretty straightforward but would like to hear other's opinion whether the level of effort versus saving $$ is worth it.

I just got tgs pre drilled and tapped box. No core charge. No buying all the tools and parts and free shipping. It just made sense and wasn't worth the time to me and gave me an extra box. No issues going on a year now with it. No leaks etc.

Ditto as @malburg114 I did the same because I spent so much time on the rest of the HA setup, just wanted to connect a box and go.

1997 t4r has super duty axles, 5.13s locked front and rear. 3 link front with 14" kings. Rear 63s.
Bought a 94 4Runner box for 70 at the junk yard. 33 for a rebuild kit, buying the tap and fittings is cheap. Less then 120 in it. Haven’t done the work yet

There ya go, pretty much everything you ever needed to know for HA on a toyota. I got the parts from surplus center for around $200, damn inflation. Drill bit and tap are dirt cheap on Amazon, I think around 20bucks. Working on installing this, had to order a bunch of extra brackets and shit because I can't do anything the easy way and I built my POS with 2" of up travel.

I love it! It just makes doing anything to the front end a royal bitch! Get airbumps, highly recommend them. I thought they were nothing but bro bling, but I am now a believer.

I got fox from Accutune off-road. That's all they had online and they are a kick-ass vendor especially with all the tech they dish out on suspensions on other forums. Fox's tend to be cheaper than Kings it seems.

If you're willing to try an up and coming manufacture of Air bumps, Check out Locked off road. They are priced well and have sales from time to time. I still haven't bought a set.

Anyone ever use Solid axle industries forged hubs and can confirm the 6x5.5 do fit regular Toyota wheels? For some reason I want to go full float with the rear axle so I don't regret it later on and thinking those hubs with some d60 spindles and drive flanges may be my best bet.

    Link:
    https://www.solidaxle.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=17&idcategory=6

And what would be the advantage of running a spindle style hub (solid axle industries) over a unit bearing hub and unit bearing pockets(trail gear rock assault 9/spidertrax)? This is all pretty new to me but I do understand how they work as one uses a pocket that the hub bolts to while the other has a spindle that the bearings and hub slides over and is similar to a front Toyota spindle/hub setup? Just wondering which is stronger/better/easier to get parts for and service on the trail if there is a failure or if theres a preference in general.

Hey guys, my first post on this site....

I'm looking at this '02 Tacoma for sale and wondering what you guys think. They're asking $13k. It has 51k miles, SAS, 38s, v6 auto, and that's all I really know about it. Pretty clean looking. They're closed today so I'll have to wait till tomorrow to go inspect it closer.

From the photos, you can tell it has a Dana front axle, drive side drop. Leaf springs in the front. Toyota axle in the year. I'm trying to count the lug nuts and it kinda looks like 8 lugs.

So, a SAS that has already been done. I'd have to be crazy not to buy it right? Well I'm actually looking for a daily driver.

It clearly has too much lift, I can only image how bad those driveshaft angle are and the vibrations they would cause. so I would need new leaf springs all around, and then dig into the sheet metal or get smaller tires. And I don't know what gears it has, and the dealer probably doesn't either. I could bring a floor jack with me and lift up the rear and then count the revolutions of the driveshaft while rotating the wheel, then do some math...

    What do you think??

It needs to be a D44 at least, if not a Toyota, right? What gears should it have? I suspect it has some body lift, do you?

    @mannydantyla
The price seems reasonable but you may be buying a money pit. This is a fully custom lift that the original owner could have cut corners on.
20” rims and tube side steps give the impression of it being more of a show truck. This truck would not be practical as a daily driver, wouldn’t fit in any garage.

I don’t see a gap between the bed and frame, therefore no body lift. I think you might be slightly crazy to Daily someone else’s SAS. But who knows. Definitely too tall, and definitely too bro’d Out
