A few additions to make me feel cool.
This crap is out of hand. If this woman was abused she should have called the police. I could care less if the guys boss was aware. She comes out three years later, give me a break. I am not an OSU fan but college football will be worse for it. This thing of destroying a person because they were aware of something is just bogus. It is the responsibility of the victim to seek legal action with the authorities, why does no one hold this woman accountable for having not reported said abuse? This is a woman scorned and trying to get a payday and being a vindictive bitch. I know this will blow up because many of you are happy to have the competition of OSU removed but the NCAA regulations are just moronic. Flame away!

Now the media calls this woman a hero because she is destroying a guy who actually did nothing to her but provide her husband (guy she chose to marry) good employment. Sure he might have been aware but since when is it an employers responsibility to give a crap about what goes on in a household outside of work. I mean I do not condone men who hit women but she should have taken this issue up with the authorities. If the authorities chose not to prosecute the guy it is a non issue. Thus none of the NCAA's business.

Again I may be uninformed as I have not read many articles on what supposedly happened but this is my 10,000 foot view of the situation.

And yet her husband was not in jail so that tells you the extent of the alleged abuse.

    Not really

Depends on state laws....only recently did SC pass laws allowing police to prosecute cases without the victim cooperating

I can't tell you how many times I got called to a domestic situation and the "victim" just wants to leave etc

When it comes down to it though is if Urban knew about the allegations and chose not to report them, and then lied about knowing...that's still shady

If you knew about your coworker abusing his wife and did not report it....that'd be wrong too

Domestic abuse is a weird thing and, like rape, many many many abusers escape prosecution due to a multitude of social perceptions and fear

If Urban found out, all he had to do was go to the AD and say I heard this happened and that'd be the end of it for him...we wouldn't be here

Very true. I am jaded by the current media landscape but you have some very valid points also. I had a similar situation with a subordinate when I was a squad leader and ended up reporting and busting down a guy for domestic violence so I get that and have been in that situation. With that I also know how hard it can be trying to help someone you are close to when you really do not know the wife or girlfriend with having two sides to every story. In the end the guy that was in my squad was wrong and though no criminal action was taken he did lose rank per the UCMJ and in the long run learned his lesson and is no longer that person. Has actually been married happily to the same women for 10 years now and I call and check up on him from time to time to make sure he is channeling his demons in a constructive way.

It is completely moronic to not just let the AD know but again I would lean more towards Urban doing what he thought was right apposed to the opposite.

I don't know much about the facts of all this either, but I do know it's not illegal in most states to not report a crime. However, it's pretty much universal that it's illegal to help conceal a crime after you know about it (accessory after the fact). Also, in some states, certain types of people must report a crime (i.e. school officials, parents, clergy, etc.).

Depending on S.C.'s law, Urban may have been required to report the abuse if he falls under a class of persons that must report known crimes. Urban may also be in hot water if he ever did anything to help hide the fact that a crime was committed (being deemed an accessory after the fact).

...or the fact that money/power/status can keep you out of jail :notsure:

I agree with you, though, about these idiots coming forward to destroy lives or get a fat paycheck. *CoughStormyDanielsCough* If you really want justice, call the cops. Don't sit on the egg until you can get a payday out of it. In most cases, even if the person is innocent, the media crucifies them anyway and the damage is done.

The fact that this woman had a text from Urban's wife three years later is a bit sketch though!
