    Not much water - no puddle on the floor or anything, but the inside of the panel is wet and there is a rust stain (new) on the side of the tank.

    Pipes banging? no.. my pipes aren't metal, they are that red plastic stuff...

    don't go tankless unless you have natural gas. If you want to spend the money and save a lot of energy, the GE hybrid heater is the shit, but $1600.

    Is it really? I thought the builder just used it because it was cheaper than galvanized they were using on other houses.

    Yes, it is really good stuff. The BIL and I ran a bunch of it at his house last summer. The conections for it are actually pretty pricy compared to copper. He called them "Shark Bites". Plus they are easily removed vs. having to cut PVC or un-soldering copper.

    For the shark bites, yes. It is normally right next to the fittings. They are color coded (IIRC) for the size tubing. Believe it or not, they are just little plastic horseshoe looking things.

    But, if yours are crimped on the will need cut off. Then you can just slap the shark bite in there, if need be.

    My FIL uses them for all of the new houses he builds. He gave a me a couple for my new water heater.

    Susan, get the longest warranty that you can. The hybrid heater has a heat pump on top that heats the water to a certain point, then the traditional coil takes over. Allegedly one can recoup the cost in a few years plus there is Energy Star rebates available in some states.

    Yes, you can. Those will need cut off because they are a one shot thing. They are crimped on. You would have to buy new ones and the crimp tool which the tool would cost way more than the bites. Plus you would probably only use the tool once.
