Legend has it the owners of ADS were King employees themselves and branched off to start they're own company.

I don't particularly like the blue, if wanted to go with Kings for the right reasons, I wouldn't let that stop me. I see they can also be had in black.

I have Icons at the moment nonresi 2.0 and 2.5 I have liked them so far. All street driving. I have wheelers 8 leaf springs to go on, so I wanted to get longer rear shocks, and figured I go 2.5 in the rear and upgrade to resiviors all the way around.

I wanted to try something different than what I already have. The Icons will also need a revalve one day. I thought Id get something else before that day comes.

Just my 2 cents. I'm definitely not a suspension guru, but based on my personal truck with 16" ADS bypass 2 tubes and then 16" Fox bypass 3 tubes, my butt-o-meter preferred the ADS more. At the dunes and on the street, the ADS just felt more plush. They just clicked like crazy so once they needed a rebuild I decided to try out the Fox. With the Fox, it took me a good 2 months of adjusting the clickers to find the right setting for my daily driving. At the dunes, I would open up the rebounding all the way and it just felt like the range wasn't there. Maybe I need to get them revalved?!?

    You need tuning.

ADS are nearly identical to King's, and when it comes to bypasses they both use a flat seat which makes a lot of noise. Fox uses a tapered seat that's much quieter.

I see the tighter machine tolerances being a factor of overall fit and quality and therefore price. Material quality will also play a factor in that but I get lost when we talk about ride comfort. I immediately relate that to valving which you can change in any of the shocks mentioned per application.

The problem with the big companies that are making a product for the masses is that they are making a product for the masses. Your everyday person who may see dirt 5% of their ownership and even at that it will likely be more fireroad style. Their valving reflects just that.

The out of box product would likely not work well for the people who actually use their equipment. Especially when you start changing things such as vehicle weight and spring rate. There are so many variables.

I look forward to your setup when it all comes together. Didn’t mean to sound preachy. Just enjoying the topic and trying to add info that someone hopefully finds useful to the conversation.

You’ve mentioned that about Icons before. I have only talked to one individual who actually does tuning/rebuilds who likes Icons. He was actually a huge fan and swore he could get Icons to work just as well as progressive.

I've only seen your truck with the Fox setup, admittedly that was influencing my decision, between the two... and I'll have a set of F5s next week. :woot:

I don't hate the Fox. I'm confident I can get them them to ride the way I want them too. Like Ryan mentioned, it just needs some tuning. A buddy of mine is going to cycle the leafs and redo my rear bumps mounts. I'm not using about 2-2.5" of up-travel with how it's setup now.

Why not buy first and then send them in for their first service for a re-valve?

Gives you 15k miles or so to save up and then you’ll really notice the difference when the valving is done.
