Finally a fix from Toyota for Stumble condition (TSB 0062-18)

From the looks of the firmware versions on the TSB's, I think they are for different sub-systems. One may be for engine control, the other for transmission control. Just guessing, but it seems reasonable.

I haven't noticed the surge or the hesitation, but I apparently live life at a slower pace than many people.

 

Calibration IDs look to be the same:

so is there sperate files for ECU and TCU like I have for OVTune? It’s looks like it may be the same on both TSBs just updated to “diagnose” another issue people are reporting and to include more vin#s. but I want to be sure!!!! Anybody have a solid answer?

 

Ignore my last comment, I don't know what numbers I was looking at.

It sounds like each control unit has its own firmware, which makes sense, but these 2 TSB's do appear to update the vehicle to the same calibration ID (just different symptoms, same solution).

No, that's not a solid answer, I don't have one. I don't know if the part numbers and calibration IDs in Toyotaland include all firmware or just the ECM firmware.

 

The 2 TSBs are for 2 different symptoms of the truck but the solution is the same ECU update.

You got a headache, Dr give you Advil. You got toothache, Dr also give you the same Advil.

 

Why give two TSB updates on my truck as well as several others? I’m not convinced one fixes both.

 

B/c your dealer double dip and charge Toyota Corp for the 2 TSBs instead of 1. If you don't believe it's the same update you can subscribe to TIS and download the CUW files and compare.

 

Not sure if the timing is coincidental but I received a fairly detailed survey from Toyota today wanting my opinion on the shifting/power characteristics of my Tacoma. They referenced previous communication l had had with Toyota regarding my trucks driving characteristics as the reason for reaching out to me.

I am happier than most it seems with the way my truck drives but there are some deficiencies and shared my thoughts. I have experienced this delay on acceleration from a stop but I drive conservatively so fast starts don't happen often.

 

I didn’t think of it that way. I can understand it that way. Still I don’t think it makes much sense for Toyota to put two TSBs out for two problems when one can fix both.

 

Got it today, and my butt dyno says .

Feels like it's using ECT when it's not, and there's no delay anymore when I punch it.

 

Lots of things didn't make sense. Toyota corp should combine these 2 TSBs to 1 to save $. And why American 2018 has both TSBs and Canadian 2018 has none is beyond my comprehension.
Maybe Canucks are whining less?

 

Had mine updated today. Spoke to the tech who did it and confirmed it's the same file for both TSB's (0058-18 and 0062-18).

For those who have dealers that throw the high altitude loophole at you for 0062-18, just tell them your engine surges around 45 mph and they will do the 0058-18 TSB fix, which as we now know fixes the 0062-18 TSB issue too.

 

Ive complained for 2 years whenever i go for oil change. Had the first 2 rev1 updates now this one. We have the one for the surge, it was released july 25th. Our tsb's always come after yours so im sure the WOT tsb will be released soon. But that first one took care of both issues for me.

What if my WMI doesn't match? My VIN starts with "5TF" but then is "CZ5AN" it shows the only WMI's as "3TM and 5YF"

Shouldn't matter. 2nd digit is manufacture. T = Toyota Y = Toyota

 

Just got TSB 0062-18 done today and boy does it feel like a new truck. Even if it was a loss in mpg (which people are saying the opposite is true) I would have to highly recommend this update because of the smoother gear changes and better overall feel. However, I did notice it did not fix one issue where after coasting/breaking for a few seconds down hill then pressing on the gas a moderate amount (maybe as little as 25%) the truck hits a fairly high RPM before changing gear. Maybe this is supposed to be this way but it still feels janky to me.

 

Is this a new one or old?

Got mine updated yesterday and so far very happy. Throttle response is much better, both from a stop and when cruising on the freeway. Have not used my shift sense and will try normal "D" for a while.

Should note that dealer was hesitant on phone. Was a little hesitant when I arrived for my appointment. Told them I had experienced the stumble at high altitude, they could not reproduce but did the update anyway at my request.

 

The dealer nearest me really resisted A LOT. I am up near Chicago, so no high altitude. I explained that I take trips to high altitude and, while I notice the symptoms all the time, they are exasperated when I visit family in higher altitudes. He couldn't reproduce and refused. The manager took his side, even when he said "Just get it done the next time you are on vacation, visiting your family." I went ahead and contacted the regional customer service rep telephone number. Two days later, the dealership manager calls and seems much more sympathetic and looks to be much more compliant. Then I explained that I just so happened to be on the way back home from the other Toyota Dealership (about an hour away) after having had the TSB done. I then told her this was just another example why I made the 1 hour drive t buy the truck in the first place and that I would not make the mistake of trying their dealership again.

So, going regional (if you have to) seems to help. The other dealership jumped right on it. I was in and out in a little over an hour.
