Hell of a reference, my friend. Pretty much sums up most of us manual drivers. :D:p

Damn, these trucks are sensitive to warm weather. 29C yesterday on my way home (yeah, yeah, I know that's not even hot to some of you 'muricans), truck was not wanting to go like it usually does. I had the AC off/windows down for my comparison, BTW - so start hitting backspace if you were going to comment on that.
This morning on the way to work it was a refreshing 17C, truck back to it's normal self... on ramp rocket mode in 3rd lol.

    Anyway, still waiting for 1.05....

They are sensitive to all weather. Hot weather kills the power, very humid weather even at moderate temps gets sluggish and the clutch gets grabby from the dampness. It doesn't take much of a drop below freezing to exaggerate the surging under load or send my fuel consumption to the floor either. It's got "character" :D

Must be your ancient ECU. :) I was just thinking the other day about how my truck has been performing very well in the warmer, more humid weather.

any of you running this tune with 4.88 too? Hoping that would give me the best experience.

Would you compare the driveability and power delivery to that of the 2nd gen MT?

In what context? Does the hypothetical 2nd gen have 4.88’s and the OVTune? They’re 2 completely different vehicles, however, having owned 2 manual 2nd gens, the stock 3rd gen manual destroys the stock 2nd gen in all facets. Given that a 3rd gen manual with 4.88’s is far superior than a stock 3rd gen manual, I can safely say “yes” to your question.

No I mean in power delivery and useable power off the line and at lower rpms. My 2nd gen MT taco on stock gears had much more torque off the bottom with that 4.0L engine and made daily driving comfortable as I didn’t have to wind the engine up for useable power. Throttle response was also much better and torque off the get go was awesome. So while I agree the 3rd gen is awesome and far greater then the 2nd gen, the “ALL facet” part I can’t agree with, which is why we are tuning and regearing our trucks for better power delivery.

Are you tuned? Honest question, not trying to wind you up.

While the 3.5 is never going to be a stump puller in it's NA form, OVtune has made a real difference in throttle response and to some extent low end power (I run the 91 Octane file). You still have to be ~2000rpm for it to start pulling well though.

As far as a comfortable drive, I usually end up cruising around back roads/small towns in 5th and sometimes 6th at 40mph - no issues.

I'm on stock gears, so I can't comment on that. I also don't have extra weight and my tires are stock size for the OR.

Don’t worry I don’t get wound up, and if my previous post came off like I was, my bad as that’s definitely not the case. And Yup been tuned for a long time and will try 104a soon (I know I’m lagging). 103b has been my favorite tune so far, and yes throttle response has been greatly improved, as well as power delivery and mpg on it. But since I had that pinging/knocking issue I posted in that video a while back I switched back to stock tune. Hoping 104a fixes it for me. Matt is doing awesome stuff with this tune and I’m super grateful that he’s hear for our Taco community.

I guess what really got me wanting more was on my recent trip, I was driving in the rocky mountains and this truck unless at 4K rpms or higher would lose speed on the steep grades and had to go down all the way to 3rd. My 2nd gen never did that and I felt bummed. At home (sea level) truck is MUCH better (passes I was on recently went up to 13k feet), but I do a lot of trips in my truck and want more. Oh and I am running sliders/skids and during my trip had two enduro bikes and gear in my truck.

Nah no issues with your previous post, I just like to pre-emptively de-escalate (wow, is that a thing??!!) where things can get testy with some ppl on here.

I can see your concern for sure, and for the record some trucks knock/ping on the tune and some do not (mine does). Some trucks also do this on the OEM calibration, according to Mat.
