Nice build man! Do you have any pics of your boost/afr gauges and how you have them mounted? I've been eyeing some of the AEM ones myself..

I do. I’ll get you some when I’m not on my phone. I have them on my computer somewhere.

    And thanks!

I took on the task of swapping out charcoal canister and filter today. Toyota wanted $623+tax. Parts cost me just over $350 out of the door from that genuinetoyotaparts.com site and it took me about an hour of my time. Not hard to do at all----> if you have 1" spacers OR you commit to raising the bed. Since I am running 1" spacers, I had enough room to get everything out and replaced with zero issues in 1 hour. If you have to lift the bed, there's additional time there.

This job requires a 12mm socket/ratchet and flat head pliers for hose clamps. Total job is 4 bolts, 1 electrical connector, 3 hoses, 2 hose clamps (one you can do by hand though), and a fuel vent hose connector.

    Best tool for this job:

    Canister 8.jpg

Everything that was going to be installed
    Canister 1.jpg

@Robertocritser this is for you. Just so you know I still use this almost EVERY time I work on the truck
    Canister 2.jpg

The 3 hoses and 1 electrical connections up close
    Canister 3.jpg

    Again
    Canister 4.jpg

This pic shows 1 bolt removed to get the ABS wire connector out of the way (the additional black hose zip tied is for the air locker). The filter itself is also removed.
    Canister 5.jpg
    Canister 6.jpg

    new filter going in
    Canister 7.jpg

What the bad sensor looks like. You can see the old, dirty fuel and rusted electrical component. This is primarily why the unit went bad and triggered the 5 CEL Codes
    Canister 9.jpg

    Canister 10.jpg

This is the charcoal canister with the front removed so I could take the sensor apart (above pic)
    Canister 11.jpg

I cut into the smaller filter to see what it actually was. Although it is dirty, next time I would NOT buy this piece since I dont really see it doing too much. If all the fault codes didnt clear then I would spend the additional 65$ or whatever for this. The good part is this piece is VERY easy to install and is done without removing the charcoal canister. This piece comes out first in the process, and goes in last.
    Canister 12.jpg

    Everything back together
    Canister 13.jpg

I included this pic bc I found it odd that there was this cut mark in the composite bed, exactlywhere where the charcoal canister is which WITHOUT the 1" body lift would make it troubelsome to get out. When I installed this, it was my 3rd canister (the orignal one, THEN I HAD TOYOTA REPLACE IT, and now I did this one). I am 99% sure the worker did this at the dealership to replace it which is UNSAT to me. I cannot prove anything but if anyone else has this same part cut out then maybe I'll think otherwise. . . . ). Makes me upset that the dealership would do this to cut corners. If they do this, what else are they doing?!?!?!? The OEM repair manual calls for dropping the tank OR lifting the bed, not cutting the bed. And this is why I do things myself.
    Canister 14.jpg

Hope this helps someone in the future!

Fuck yeah they're going to cut corners. That cut damn sure isn't factory. The tech was counting on the fact that hopefully no one would see it. There are ways to cut corners to beat time to make money, but shit like that is shotty.

How many miles do you have on your truck? Interested in how often this is needed. Are you happy with the body lift? Seems like many dont go that route. One I dont mind exploring.

I’m sitting around 84K miles on it. It’s not needed really unless you top off your fuel continuously, like I do. Since this is my third one, I think now I’m actually going to stop topping off but it’s bc fuel will get near that sensor and over time damage it. I would believe that some trucks prob don’t ever need one changed if you stop fueling when the handle clicks off.

As for the body lift, it is not something I recommend just to do it to provide lift. It’s bad for offroad application but I solely did it in conjunction with my cab mount relocation to help make room for up to 37’s in the future. The one inch also helps if I were to add in a crawl box as well. That’s why I only did 1”: just enough to add clearance I would need without running the risk of really messing anything up for offroad. IMO, a lift should come from suspension, not blocks/body lift but again that’s due to application. If someone just wanted the look and didn’t do much off-roading then by all means, I don’t see the issue. Also, more than 1” and you have to do more with the filler neck into the fuel tank.

    hope these help:

    Gauges installed.jpg

    Gauge fix 4.jpg

    Gauge fix 5.jpg

    Gauge fix 6.jpg

These were the X-series gauges from AEM btw. Thin faced is nice, but poses the problem of mounting since gauge pods are still designed for the thicker gauges.

Ill have to snag a pic of it from the top side. I did get like a 1/4" metal spacer from the local hardware store to make it all fit.

4th of July trip with @NorthwestCruiser and a few of his friends; nice to meet them! Pics were stolen from his page since I took practically the same ones.
Also thanks for the video Brian. The cost of having a long bed...but the benefits of a HC bumper. Well worth it.

I had to park my truck as there was a new hole that made the entrance really sketchy, we barely squeezed in/out.

    @JimSnell

Got talked out of the x2o due to numerous returns the guy at 4wp had specifically for the wireless control not working. Decided to save the frustrations I’d have if the wireless remote went out along with the 100$ it took off. Bonus was no tax at 4wp. I can now count on 2 fingers the things I’ve gotten from 4wp’s

Never had a problem with my wireless remote. It also comes with a wired connector if you need to use it. You'll be happy with that though. I've put mine through hell, and so have Gid and Everett.

I had a small bit of pride not having the winch, but the trip in the snow with Max where he was able to kinda “pendulum” swing me out of a ditch was kinda my eye opening moment. I had heather and Eliza with me and would have had to do a shit ton of digging with my mini shovel, out of the ice and snow and potentially use my hi-lift to help winch out. Since I’m working with a friend to build a bumper, I’ll be able to keep the Baja look with the winch.
