I didn’t tune and regear for better power delivery, I tuned and regeared because being on 35’s with 600 pounds of armor required it.

Are you on stock size tires? If so, you will be hating life with 4.88’s. Gearing will be way too low unless you go up to 33’s.

I think he is talking about some of the known issues with 3rd gens...kind of why a lot of people have purchased OVTune right? Stumble, excessive shifting, bogging...there are known issues.

I’m being serious. I haven’t experienced any of the issues people are complaining about because having driven Tacoma’s since 1995 I understand that these aren’t race cars or tow pigs. Bone stock they are great and do what they were designed to do if driven the way they were designed to be driven. Once modding starts, you have to account for the things you’ve added. I am getting ready to SAS and upgrade to 38’s and will be running 5.29’s. I bought the truck to use as an off-road rig. I didn’t buy it to be my daily even though I drive it more than my other 2 cars.

On 35’s I’m at 2500 RPMs at 70. I would imagine being on stock tires, he’d be close to 3300 RPMs. Bye bye gas mileage.

No I’m on 32” tire w/sliders and skids. But added up the weight is minimal, like driving with a passenger. And honestly, having rpms high isn’t necessarily a bad thing. These trucks don’t produce any real power till above 3500rpms anyway. On my recent trip, just driving on the highways with decent grades my truck with bikes and gear would lose speed and force me to shift in a gear where rpms were at 4K rpms just to not lose mph.

Can anyone with stock tires and 4.88 gearing post what their 65/70mph rpms are at?

There isn’t likely anyone running stock tires on 4.88’s

You’re on 32’s? What is the size on the sidewall?
