MTS is low range only for the Tacoma, isn't it? That's basically what I'm getting at. I don't believe the Rav4 has ever had low range.

    Yes, A-TRAC for the win!
How can he lock the rear in High Range, is that possible in non-Tacoma Toyotas, or is it a mod?

Note, these mods are from 2007. In 2009, when A-TRAC was first available on the Tacoma, it was already made to work with the rear locker. This allows cruising at any speed (in low range) without traction assist, but if you suddenly get bogged down (speed below 3 mph), the A-TRAC wakes up (on the front tires) and keeps you going. Without the rear locked, A-TRAC on is always on standby* without the speed limit. However, in reality, A-TRAC only works (needs to work) when you can't move ahead without it... or when you are stopped or almost stopped by tire spin.

    * assuming you pressed the A-TRAC button in L4 to activate it.

Yeah, I'm up to a handful of times I've leaned on A-trac to get me out now. Almost Everytime is on an incline, bad camber, tight turn with wet rocks to bump up. Hasn't let me down yet. Haven't broke any parts either while doing so.

David, are these in SD County? I cut my off roading teeth in the 60s and 70s in SD County and Baja.

I have been fortunate enough to be able to use my locker. Only once so far though and i went out of my way to use it. Honestly i was just trying to use all of the options and combinations ( AT ) so mts crawl locker and combo of them all. It was strange but it worked. Though i managed to get to where nothing was able to get me up a hill with loose rock and dirt but honestly it was mostly the tires at that point. Looking at it i knew it was probably not gonna make it. But it was a safe area ( as safe as you can be doing that) and i wanted to test the limits as well as my own. Different tires ( stock ) and i believe it would've done better or maybe even make it.

Yes, the One Tri Hill was near Pine Valley... as you saw it was with other SoCal Tacomas including Doug ("4WD") who named the hill after "Tricoma" and others.
Diablo Drop Off is the (usually) one-way drop into Split Mountain from the southwest, in the Borrego Desert... again with the SoCal Tacomas, led by Matt "Reckless Taco" (really miss his trips since he moved to Nevada).
Pancake Rock is in East County San Diego beyond El Cajon. I was with my stepson and one other Taco, as named in the video clip.
Like you, Baja California, and the Borrego Desert/ Imperial Valley is where my four wheeling love was born!

Lowering the air pressure in the tires will make a huge difference! Low pressure and crawl slow, let the 4WD do its magic!

How low do you like to go David ? I'm just on stock rims and 265/75r16 duratracs c load, but I normally take her down to about 18 for the forest climbs I do with the bogs and Brooks on trail.

I aired down to 18 psi. In all fairness its the ft lewis offroad course and it was a section that was more than likely used to come down not up, and if it were used to go up it was probably something modded and someone with much more experience

Dirt roads, to make the ride smoother and lessen the chance for sharp rock punctures, I go to 20 psi (normally I run 34 psi in my Hankook DynaPro ATM 265/75-16's).
For deep sand or more extreme roads, down to 15 psi.
When I had mud-terrain-type (3-ply sidewall) tires as well as my friends who run BFG All Terrain tires, you need to go down to 10 psi.

Awesome. I'm still trying to find the right pressure for running the Golden Road. Doing 60+ and coming up 4-6" corrugations for miles on and off .... Gotta find that somewhat comfortable ride zone haha.
