Me too. Thats main reason I run steelies. I can trash them. Not the man-sexy so many look for, but they take a good beating. I even use the KISS principle when it comes to my backwoods loo. Not my pic, but mine looks just like this and my bucket has same seat.

    Let's doo this!

    Yeah.
Same thoughts @Falcon016, amazing how careless people can be. I can't figure out if tire installer or oil change specialist is lower on the auto maintenance totem pole, but I am sure neither pay that well. Still, no excuse for being sloppy and careless. Like I've told a few ambitious young folks that think their current job is beneath them, you gotta do a good job at what you're currently doing to get a shot at that better one. Entitled generation (not you, @MatthewMay1, you are kinda cool).

I ran steelies for a long time, but the quality of the stock steelies that came on my first 2nd gen (only option it had was floor mats) was not great, tires wore funny. Plus they were narrower than the alloy upgrade, so wider tires looked funny on them. TPMS and lug nuts not compatible. That said, I always liked the old school look and would certainly run them.

Thanks for the reminder on the loo, I keep meaning to grab one at Walmart but they are either out of the lids or bags. So I ordered me a new potty seat! My wife keeps threatening to go camping with me and got some of those those Go Girl things (allow a girl to stand up and pee like a guy). My daughter tested one out and said it was weird but worked.

I'm running stock wheels from a 3rd gen T4R on my truck so I don't worry about them too much. However, at one point in my life I had a $2k set of wheels on a Lexus and a shop scratched them up. We had words. Got a discounted set of high end tires out of it and never went back.

Edit: Loved this car. I still regret getting rid of it.

Still out of the country. I'm just fortunate enough to have regular internet access where I am.

    I appreciate the thought though.

Your best bet for ensuring your wheels aren’t damaged is to either go to a dealer, or a high end wheel shop that has new/high end equipment. The newest tire machines make it very difficult to damage a wheel, but they are prohibitively expensive for most shops. You’ll still have an unskilled/underpaid person doing the work, but the results are generally much better.

    Yeah.
Good call. But those pics look like a cross-eyed drunk dude was using a wobble socket on an impact gun when putting the lug nuts on. I'd be sure to check the torque on those.

I had a '76 Lancia Beta back in the early '80's that had a tiny center hole and they wouldn't fit on anyone's machines (it also had lug bolts, not lug nuts). I had to go to a truck tire place where a giant man with a big pickaxe looking thing installed them manually. I feared for those aluminum/magnesium wheels, but the guy was good. And he didn't try to eat me.

I'll check the torque on them. When I got them installed originally I watched them check with the torque wrench. Doesn't mean it was at the right force though...

Anyone in NWA want this free license plate cover? It's never been used brand new.

@TenBeers Many people my age make me embarassed to be associated with the same generation. Sometimes I wish I was born in the 60’s... Luckilly for me, my chosen profession is doing much better now than it has in the past so at least I've got that going for me. Haha

Or that their torque wrench was even close to accurate! I’d bet my lunch they couldn’t tell you the last time they had it checked.

The one that scratched mine up was a high end wheel shop which is part of the reason it made me so mad. They are no longer in business.

I was helping my godfather move an old 27' camper one time and the camper got a flat near El Paso, AR. Fortunately there was a big rig tire shop near there. Unfortunately we could not understand either of the old timers that were working there. They did a very good patch job for not much money but I'll be damned if I understood a single word they said besides the price.

We run into this on job sites. We'll have a guy torquing a flange on a high pressure 12" line and you're lucky if they have a torque wrench on site. If they do have one and you ask the last time it was calibrated the usual response is "torque wrenches have to be calibrated?"

Yea, my company owns a skidmore so I might go up there and see what their torque is.

Hey guys, I'm going to be driving through your area next week, I'm planning on spending a day in Ozark nf. If anyone needs a TW express I'll gladly help. I'm going to be stopping in Oklahoma city for a day to see my sister before going to Ozark then heading to Alabama.

I'm heading to Collegiate Peaks area with @Dave_M on August 17th. Be there most of that following week. We'll be somewhere close to 24/285, probably up Halfmoon, Hagerman, Clohesy and other spots and in and out of Leadville. If you're going to be in Leadville, be awesome to catch up. Enjoy Arkansas and Ozark NF!
