    Your signal was still good without it? I read you need to keep the cap on it for the best signal, but I may not bother if your signal was still fine. But then I may just because it will bug me seeing it missing. :laugh:

    my CB signal was never great or even good. truck to truck on trail was decent at best. maybe that rubber doohicky had something to do with it

    It affects tuning. If running without, tune without. If you want a cap, tune with cap on.

    LOL. I actually stopped the truck and took the antenna off one night in a garage... it's pretty gnarly now, but the cap survived!

    After mine took a beating, i rigged a small line with a loop up towards the cab, and would bend the antenna down and slip the loop over the tip to hold it down low. only works if you have a spring on your setup though.
